Never off-duty 12:35pm on 13 Aug 2009 AD should step down from the Cabinet. He's made a couple of gaffe's in public. DC has plenty of people he can use. It'll be a good move as it shows conviction and true repenting. None of the other parties can argue against it. AD can always come back later. He just needs to be supportive and less vocal during his time away from the front bench.
The shrinking economy 5:00pm on 24 Jul 2009 Please help - I don't understand how, if things are getting worse, the stock market is rising all the time? Is this a good thing or should we be concerned about the reasons behind the rise?

A call for debate 1:05pm on 10 Jun 2009 Brown is not going to change the electoral system. It's just a circus and a show.

Any policies (on anything) that Labour offer with a due date after the election will not change the outcome - only policies before the election will have an impact.

If I were Cameron, I would publicly state that it is a case of Labour changing the rules to keep themselves in power, but privately I would not lose any sleep over it.
Writhing, ducking and diving 1:27pm on 28 May 2009 The Tories are taking the hits and Cameron must be hoping that his appearance of a leader who takes action will pay off. He will get one PMQ to push the point that GB is dithering and should sack Blears before the elections. Surely, it is this week that will help voters decide not next week. Would it not be sensible for GB to stay in a bunker and as you say, avoid all interviews?

I feel sorry for Cameron, he may not be able to give Labour the kicking he wants because he could not get a PMQ this week - despite looking stronger in terms of leadership.
Cautious message 2:04pm on 13 May 2009 I am concerned that the true picture may be manipulated in order to keep Labour in power. It this were true, then we are in a lot of trouble - not because of the situation per se, but because people may make investments on the back of incorrect informaton. I know it is "buyer beware" but we are all connected, as the current situation shows.
Political game changer 2:21pm on 12 May 2009 Who cares? Corrupt MP's and higher unemployment don't matter as the stock market is rising and house prices are going up. We can all relax as we have all been saved. Its time to enjoy the hot summer we are promised.

Optimistic about the future 1:50pm on 22 Apr 2009 You suggested that the 50% tax was designed to put the Tories on the spot over tax.

That may be the case as higher band tax increases are not as effective as people think, given that those affected find ways to avoid paying it.

However, as things stand, the Tories are not winning the next election - Labour are losing it. Labour are unable to expose any flaws in the Tories, because they are always on the defensive. A 50% tax rate will not expose the Tories.
Confusion on the wildcat strikes 11:25am on 02 Feb 2009 The issue is the grandstanding of our PM on the subject before he was tested.

If the government has signed up to a certain law, and Total have followed that law, then there is nothing that can be done. It may mean that the strikes are illegal.

To me, the main point is the posturing of the PM on the subject before he was tested on it - a test he has failed. A lot of the placards say "UK jobs for UK people" - if he hadn't made that soundbite - he wouldn't be looking silly now.

Expect a ground shattering announcement from the meetings with the Chinese PM this week - he needs a result.

I had heard that Robert Peston caused the run on Northern Rock with a tabloid style of reporting but I disagreed.

However, is using the term "Depression 2.0" no more than tabloid style reporting? It is simplifying all the issues that a Depression would represent into a nice simple sound bite. People are suffering and there is real hardship - please don't ignore that for the sake of a media buzz word.

That's my opinion, though a friend pointed out that, if you must use that phrase, then call it "Depression 2 draft 1" as no-one, including governments, seem to have all the details about it.
