Petitions in China 09:50am on 10 Apr 2009 Why don't show those pages here and let us take a look? A lot of Chinese here and I can load it into Chinese websites and it can be much more efficient. You can't help them any more by just telling us how bad Chinese government acts here. Of course, it's a much more effecient way to tell the world that Chinese government and CCP is a monster.
Communists turn to Confucius 3:28pm on 20 Mar 2009 Chinese people are influenced by Confucianism traditionally and historically and it's not easy to get rid of Confucianism out of Chinese bones. In the 10 years' cultural revolution, the whole Chinese nation is crazy, confusing and out of control. Thanks to Granpa Deng. It's hard to imagine if today's China were still in this kind of stiation.
Competitive elections in China? 02:29am on 11 Mar 2009 I don't mind what system it is, one-party or multiple. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. One-party system doesn't necessarily mean dictator and multi-party can't always be democratic either. The key point is that it can make its people richer and happier and the Chinese have so far done very well and much better than many governments worldwide.

Besides, I can't agree that China will "never simply copy the system of Western countries". We have own characteristics, historically, socially, politically, culturally, etc. and those systems working well in other countries may not work in China, so we have to find out a better and more suitable one by ourselves. Present system may not be the best but it works well and is always improving.

Yes, US & British leaders are abasolutely much more eloquent and humorous than Chinese leaders, but good eloquence and humor helps little in a congress. Annual report itself is boring and jammed with details and statistics, which Mr Wen wanna tell his people. Personally, I'd like more eloquent and humorous Chinese leaders would appear in future.
China: All about jobs 2:10pm on 04 Mar 2009 If you go to those eastern and southern coastal areas in China, you can see mobs of people looking for jobs every year. Chinese population is too large and economic gap between areas is big too, so as Chinese won't be so surprised at the scene, many Chinese have such experience --- graduated students, job losers, better job seekers....

This year, the job market must be more serious but it's fine. Chinese are diligent and tough and most of them have savings, so they can take care of themselves. Besides, the government has issued many ways to increase the job opportunities, encourage personal business, and foster working skills, etc. Everything's gonna fine. We should be confident.
How news breaks in China 08:37am on 02 Mar 2009 I'd like to express one of my views on news reporting. As I know, western medias like to report bad news while Chinese medias prefer good news. From my point of view, both good news and bad news are necessary. Reports with all bad news make me think the world is so terrible while those with all good news let me feel the world is not real. Now, I like reading news (in Chinese) better than 10 years ago, because I can see various kinds of news, good or bad, in China and abroad, serious or interesting.... It's more vivid and real.
How news breaks in China 08:22am on 02 Mar 2009 James, I can tell you before you mentioned the event at your last journal, I have already seen the Chinese version online. Besides, I wanna emphasize once more ---- there are more medias besides CCTV & XINHUA.

you "still don't know exactly where the incident happened" --- it tells you need to strenthen your ability to find out the news at the very early time.

"Eyewitnesses are reluctant to speak" I don't know why you like so much to emphasize "relunctant" and I don't think there's nothing to threaten them, because all he said has already been in Chinese news and it's not a secret in China at all. I think only one made those Chinese reluctant, that is, they are not good at English. James, pls don't mislead others every time that some people (mostly the police) is abusing those eyewitnesses and threaten them not to tell the truth.

BBC likes criticizing China's control over news broadcast and I have to say it's true in some aspects. However, when Chinese medias report the bad news by themselves, and BBC still likes to find the fault and why can't BBC see the improvement? I've been a Chinese for about 28 years(never left China) and I can see the change. Now in our media, we can not only seen those good news but also many bad news, including traffic accidents, natral disasters, corruptions, police' abusing suspects, etc. and many discussions on social and polical issues. Of course, China can do better and let's wait and see.

Hillary Clinton's visit to Beijing 02:12am on 20 Feb 2009 I'm not rich either and I had to work hard every day to keep my life, but I have no complaits on our government. That's just life. Most people have to work hard for life like me, not waiting for government's help. There's nothing to do with human rights in Tibet but some people try to break away, which is unbearable for every countries in the world.

Don't mention human right issue every time. I don't think our Chinese human right is that bad although there is still a big gap between the rich and the poor (but it's still true in many rich western countries and China's difficulty is much harder with so large population).

I know the human right here you mentioned acctually means Tibetan issue. Tibetans are part of Chinese and they, together with the other 54 minorities, enjoy much better priority than Han Chinese(Han Chinese never thought it's unfair). As long as they don't break the law, they can live peacefully as normal Chinese citizens and no one will bother them. Probably, many Tibetans are poor but it's not just Tibetans, but including many Chinese in central & western China or even in some developed areas. It's just a big gap that needs Chinese government to narrow, but it needs time and we've all seen the improvement.
