Champions go back to front 08:45am on 23 Jul 2009 @2 If you want to look at the team, and say they make the winners, then Brawn is your man. How many world championships did Schumacher win without Brawn? Having said that, I still think that Schumacher was a great driver, was as much part of winning those championships as his team and deserves his titles.
Green shoots in the music industry? 8:34pm on 16 Jul 2009 @4 I got something that might even be classed as fairly mainstream in the US that didn't take off in the UK, and similarly something reasonably mainstream in Australia that didn't take off in the UK, so only available via Amazon import or similar. Both of these about the £16 mark. So, it's not just in classical and jazz (although I have seen it in both) where expensive CDs exist.

@8/@10 for mainstream stuff, Zavvi/Virgin was probably overpriced compared to its competitors - that's why it went bust. Head seems to have opened in some old fopps - didn't know it was doing the same with old Zavvis too.

@9 - good points

@13 I suspect that the Linn downloads are technically two times better, but perceptually only 10% better. I think that a well recorded CD played on a good system will sound a lot better that most people would expect. My system is far from the top end of CD reproduction, but still sounds very good, and really don't think even the "perfect sound, as it should sound, made by the perfect format, better than SACD or DVD-Audio on the perfect system" would be twice as good to my ear.
Battle of the smartphones 00:08am on 18 Jun 2009 I would still prefer the N96 (or even the N91) to the N97 (or the iPhone, or the HTC Touch HD, or anything else touch). Proper buttons for music playback control, always available on the front panel. A number panel for when you are forced to wade through menus, or for when you check voicemail. The UI is simply better! Also, the N96 still has market leading specs in most areas (I think it loses to a Samsung on some camera features - no 3x optical zoom), and the N91 also was a market leader at launch.
How smart is Nokia? 9:47pm on 16 Apr 2009 I'm sick of all the touchscreens! I have an HTC Touch HD for work, and after the initial novelty factor, it's just an occasional pain. I still think monoblocks and sliders, with number pads, d-pads/joystick and a few specialist buttons (eg. music, camera), are the best form.

I think it's a shame in the N-series that started off in nice stainless steel (for the N90, N91), that they had to downgrade to cheep plastic. Now I have a digital camera (so am no longer too bothered about the lack of flash, camera button and low res), my only real gripe with the N91 is that there's not quite enough system memory to make the web browser work well.

I have Just added:

Speed Dial,
Tab Catalog,
Tiny Menu
and Undo Closed Tabs Button.

This may not perfectly replicate all the good features of Google Chrome (Speed Dial doesn't automatically decide what should be in it's list, unlike Chrome's New Tab page), but I think it's enough to keep me with Firefox for now.
Chrome - first impressions 8:51pm on 02 Sep 2008 Things I like (in no particular order):

application shortcuts,

the slim UI for general web usage (which reminds me of the goods things in IE7 (such as no text menu) combined with some things from firefox),

the rendering engine (firefox, safari and opera are all pretty decent, this is no better, but it's not IE!),

the fact the flash/media player plugins work (although of course, this happens in other browsers, sometimes new browsers have this amongst their hicups),

the new tab page,

and last but not least, the tabs that can be moved in and out of windows.

Things I dislike:

The lack of adblock plus (a firefox plugin),

The lack of web deveolper toolbar (notice a pattern here?)

and the fact the javascript doesn't work properly on some websites.

I think that it may well be possible to turn the good features into firefox addons, so hopefully someone is already working on that!
Intel Classmate - the Rufus review 5:06pm on 29 Apr 2008 If Rufus were to have a youtube account, he should actually find it quite easy to record and publish a video on the internet using the blue laptop. If he doesn't, perhaps you could use your own youtube account to do the same.

from the youtube page, click "videos", then "upload", enter the details and then click "use quick capture"

It would be interesting to see if this works on the green one too - that will depend on that having a recent enough version of flash, and the linux system supporting webcam usage in flash - might work great, might not.
