Benitez's brinkmanship strikes again 09:59am on 26 Oct 2009 Fair play to Liverpool for the win - Uniteds midfield was weak and didn't show up, but the referee was woeful.
As SAF , Man United fans and any neutral would agree he bottled it from the first minute.
If he wasn't Red all over yesterday, he was definitely the colour of his shirt YELLA !

Ronaldo for the golden boot, it's already nailed on and his team mates seem to like him, even though he doesn't get them running about for him as did Fergies boys.
Chelsea & Liverpool under scrutiny 07:33am on 02 Oct 2009 Both teams seem to be stuttering and failing to gell or find form in midfield or defense so far this season and are not matching United's cohesive play. United are a better ' team ' post Ronaldo and their squad depth is excellent , and they demonstrated to these pretenders how to play on Wednesday and the only other team capable of matching their style is Arsenal at their best.
Sunday's match at the Bridge will be draw as neither team dare lose even though the title is never won this early in the season.
I reckon 2-2, Lampard and Drogba, Torres and Benayoun to score.
United 2-1 and on the way to another title.
Giggs is Manchester United's shining knight 11:35am on 27 Sep 2009 A fair article Phil, you chose to visit Stoke and write what you and most neutral observers would have written, United kept the ball and players with experience and lots of skill and class won the day for them.
Scholes was outstanding until tired , Giggs came on and was excellent , efficient and was again used as a 35 minute impact player.
Job done, even though Rooney had a quiet day and Valencia was ignored/ isolated in the first half.
Yes,I believe there is a massive reliance on the old brigade at United at this time , but in the last 4/5 seasons we were panned for relying on the brilliance of Ronaldo , so it's back to basics, team work, graft, skill and nouse until the new blood gels or improves. If Nani can be mentored by Giggsy and has half a brain , he will get better by the end of this season , if not , he will likely be sold and SAF will get out the cheque book.
For United to be top by game 7 is unusual, if still there , we will see if the team handles it 3 weeks from now, will it get a nose bleed?
I think on form a point at Anfield is likely - just like the old days !
Carry on the good work Phil , I'm sure Torres will feature in many articles , so the Liverpool supporters can rest easy....
Ferguson revels in classic win 1:08pm on 21 Sep 2009 I concur largely with Poster # 34 , but no subs after 85 mins isn't sensible if injuries are the reason.Also, if tactical, and it works, then the Manager is just doing his job and should be lauded.
As stated by everyone who isn't a Blue, United deserved the win and in the extra minutes were 'really ' trying to get the winner, exposing themselves from the half way line and City with someone thinking clearly could have and should have gone for the jugular with an out of sorts Rio and Foster a bag of nerves.
As it was, Owen and Giggs, old heads carved out a fantastic winning goal, all credit to them.
# 7 is the bargain of the season , mark my words, he will help Manchester United win 4 in a row. !

Ferguson talk must please Man City 12:58pm on 18 Sep 2009 Good blog Phil, but I think SAF is only saying what many of the top 6 P/L managers will say , he is doing it ahead of the Derby match , answering questions put to him ,but is perceived as 'stoking the fires so to speak' , so be it.
City have made progress with some good signings, Barry notably, and have indeed won all their matches so far, but I believe United will win on Sunday and until Hughesy can field his best team week in and week out his squad hasn't the quality to stay the course. I reckon, with luck, they will finish 4th, behind Arsenal, Chelsea and United to win the title again on the last day of the season.
For me as always United are simply ' the best ' , why not I've supported them since 57'.
Del Potro sets seal on memorable US Open 4:17pm on 15 Sep 2009 Well done to DP , but he is a long way from becoming World No 1 - even though he upset the bookies on last nights display.
He overcame a very out of sorts Federer and an injured Natal, who I believe 6 times out of ten when all players are at their best would win a match against DP. He is however the next player to be reckoned with and with good management , coaching and fitness will be number 1 ahead of Djorko and definitely Murray who needs to re focus badly.
Federer will be # 1 this time next year still be the one to beat imo.
I watched every minute of last nights match and Federer was unusually sloppy and couldn't serve up a cuppa, but like Arnie ....he will be back.

There is absolutely no need to pull out the race card or for the SA Athletic and Government spokespersons to threaten WW 3 !
The IAAC didn't handle this case very well at all , but the continued hoopla is also pretty distasteful ( I don't mean blogs ) and in the fullness of time my hope is that the gender guidelines and ' qualification ' requirements will be clearly defined.
I suppose the athlete in question will become the celebrity test case and will maybe decide it's not worth the fuss, Good luck.
Capello can plot World Cup glory 2:35pm on 10 Sep 2009 Sorry , I don't agree with poster #38, Beckham is still streets ahead of SWP and will be in the squad mainly because he is still a good player, is a consummate professional and leader and has been there before.
When the muck and muckrakers abound in SA , he will be an old head on and off the field. Yes he is a 20 minute man, but such players are often the difference between winning and losing. Also, Capello rates him highly and isn't into ageism thankfully.
As for the rest of the squad, at RB , I still prefer Brown or Hargreaves if fit , also Carlton Cole up front is a must, Heskey and Crouch to miss out.
most of the rest of the players will pick themselves by staying fit and keeping their form.
Real deals put La Roja in the shade 10:57am on 08 Sep 2009 Ronaldo will not fit in at Real even though he is arguably the best player in the world . At United, his team mates worked their socks off for him and he shone, it wont happen at Real.He repaid his team at OT with brilliance , goals and silverware , but if the fans get on his back at RM , he will go into a sulk and I reckon be gone in 2010 ( probably back to Manchester ?)
I also believe he has a monkey on his back , that's the likely failure of Portugal to qualify for the World Cup finals.
How intriguing is the possibility that the two best midfield / attacking players around Messi and Ronaldo will be missing from the South African history making Finals come next June !?
