Cameron's Lisbon problem 12:28pm on 01 Oct 2009 It's fairly safe to say that most of the don't-knows — up to 80 percent — will actually vote no. But according to the most recent polls, such a result would still result in a yes tomorrow.

I would have though UKIP would have wanted a yes vote tomorrow. If that happens they might even have a decent chance of a referendum on EU membership itself instead of just the Lisbon Treaty.

Worth voting for an MEP? 3:31pm on 17 Apr 2009 While turnout for the European Parliamentary elections is very low and may well be even lower this time than the last time, it would be nice to wait for the actual result become debating the issue.

An opinion poll taken before the campaign has begun, is hardly a great guide to eventual turnout. Please let's not fall into the trap of writing history before it happens.
Lisbon not done deal for Irish 6:42pm on 10 Apr 2009 As an Irishman, I don't think there's anything undemocratic in re-running the general election. Just because the last time was only two years ago doesn't mean we can't have another go at getting the right result.

The EU President is is a role held by the head of government not the head of state. In the UK that's the Prime Minister and not the Queen. In France they have a semi-presidential system so it's their President. Believe it or not the President of the Czech Republic is meant to be a (mostly) ceremonial post, much like the Presidents of Ireland, Germany and Italy. It's just that Klaus is too much of an arrogant ..... to behave appropriately!

I very much hope they succeed in putting a decent regulatory regime in place, but they also need to stimulate economic growth by investing in infrastructure. We need to spend our way out of this recession.
