'Knives out' for SNP budget 9:12pm on 17 Sep 2009 New Labour are getting what they deserve here. If they had actually formulated a proper rail-link rather than a take it or leave it plan, which involved rubbishing of anyone against the plan or with an alternative plan, this would have survived in its different form rather than the vanity project it was from the start.

The biggest events, for the largest number of people 9:20pm on 10 Mar 2009 Bit of a smug post, considering how on the one hand you shell out on motorsport's equivilant to paint drying, and on the other plead poverty whenever the thorny issue of rights for Scotland's World Cup qualifying is brought up.

Oh and Rupert (post #35) - i actually thought ITV's match coverage has been better than expected, sure the tone of the coverage is the usual English tub-thumping, but the match coverage has been OK. Having said that, i think audience figures have been affected by STV's decision NOT to show any FA Cup games live.

As for Tuesday, how about some Lightning Seeds, maybe "Ready or Not", who got their name from the purple one's "Rasberry Beret". A variation on a theme, could be The Killers, who took their name from a band called... The Killers which appeared in the video for New Order's "Crystal".

Next week's themes... 8:04pm on 15 Feb 2009 Tuesday - It's got to be something by Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express would be my nomination. A band that inspired the movement that would become "the New Romantic's" in this country, and in the USA the early Hip-Hop artist's (check out Planet Rock by Afrika Bambaataa and The Soul Sonic Force for early evidence of this) and the early House DJ's. Trans Europe Express also name-check's Iggy Pop and David Bowie.

Tuesday - New Order "Round and Round"

Wednesday - Eigth Wonder "Im Not Scared" - written by this year's Outstanding Contribution... Brit Award winners - The Pet Shop Boys.

Thursday - Depeche Mode "Everything Counts" (OK the first note is heard is one of those construction site samples that was in every Mode single around this point, but hey - it's recognisable)

As an idea for a theme, how about songs more famous as covers, for example "Tainted Love" or "Halleluliah"
