It's FMQs, stupid 4:55pm on 29 Oct 2009 Whenever I hear or read the words 'Ian MacMillan'I am remined of his infamous quote about the independence movement in Scotland - 'a boil that needs to be lanced'.

Whenever he next looks in his shaving mirror, he will see exactly what needs to be lanced!!

What a wicked web these unionists (and the Beeb colluders!) weave!!

I have watched the debates yesterday and today and I remain so saddened at the abysmal level of debate in the Scottish Parliament where positions seem so entrenched and the opposition are mired in 'politicking'

The issue with Megrahi seems to dominate, yet his time is running out (like mine, sharing the same condition) yet we have the Richard clowns (Simpson and Baker) with their political clockwatches on telling everyone when their opinion determines when a human shall demise!!

Their entire claim to any compassion is totally undermined by their spoken words (and by the way should the Baby Baker not be in school during these hours?)

Then there is the 'Greypersonalitybypassedweeman'who it seems has seven different hairdressers trying to comb his hair at the same time meanwhile contributing nothing to the forward progress of our country. And behind him sit the Nodding Donkeys (that's Rona Brankin and Motormouth Curran et al)while we note that weebendybringiton has been rightly relegated to the back benches. Yesterday I watched Andy Kerr sitting behind the 'Greypersonalitybypassweeman' shuffling piles of papers around, never concentrating on one and never answering the question as to why he was expecting to be so bored with the 'weegreyman's speech that he brought all these papers into the debating chamber in the first place!!!???

Then there was the Tavish'TheBeak'Scott. Enough said, picking at his notes all the time and unable to make one telling point!

Now I used to think well of the Golden Girl herself - that's our own Dowager Duchess - Auntie Anna but, oh dear, she has not done well here, giving room to Bill 'Hand 'em High'Aitken.

Meanwhile the Eckmeister strides magisterially across his domain, completely unchallenged, repeating and repeating in his performance how dreadfully and utterly awful are the opposition parties in this parliament. I don't think for a moment that MM will remain as an MP!

His resignation speech was so short and to the point that it had the hand of the PM all over it - part of the deal to elevate him to the Lords, at £569 per day and a very fat pension to boot!

There should be no excuses made for MM - he was found out to be an incompetent in his job and was ultimately ejected. In a company, he probably would have been exited immediately. He was, in effect, the CEO of a staff of 620 (MPs) and the public finally found out that the MPs had been running rings around him for years!

What's now required is for the 'MP fraudsters' to be exited as well - those people who have gone on accepting mortgage cash subsidies for 6 or 18 months after the debt was paid off. That, too, is gross incompetence and these people should be asked to immediately resign their seats. If that extends to even 5 or 6 that, by itself, might be sufficient to trigger a general election.

Not even the Tories with their snouts well in the troughs too, will necessarily be rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect.

I take it we are to assume that this has now become a 'good day to bury bad news' as has been the case recently with the UK Labour Party?? (Though I know you posted ahead of the latest news today (wee devil smiley)).

Or is this just the most utter cynicism yet delivered by the completely morally bankrupt Labour Party of Westminster in Scotland to the Scottish people??

To think that on this 10th anniversary of devolution the LPoWiS should make such an announcement in the face of virtually total opposition from the Scottish people just beggars belief.

Of course, it may turn out to be the biggest own political goal ever scored (large devil smiley)!!

What a depressing programme you hosted this morning!

Not for a minute do I think this was your fault, but did your producers scour the land for people with negative tales to tell? Sadly, I suspect the overwhelming majority of callers being agin the Parliament, just confirms the BBC's unwillingness to be positive about anything/anyone connected to the governing party of Scotland!

But let's be positive! I, for one, think that the Scottish Parliament ('SP')has caused a permanent sea change in politics north of the border and the one outstanding achievement has been the switch away from all the Westminster-centric media spin that we used to get 10 years ago. However, the achievements of the SP have been less than they could have been especially in the first eight years or so. That remains the case though the circumstances have changed and it remains my hope that the final re-positioning that was adopted by the opposition parties at the time of the Budget debate earlier this year may act as a 'bell-weather' for the way opposition parties co-operate in the future.

The Scottish people have clamoured for a variety of changes that the centre ground in the SP could well delivered, if only old entrenched attitudes towards other parties in the Parliament could be jettisoned.

It has been one of the great achievement of the SP (actually the Scottish people, of course) that the effects of the last election are still being worked out in the Parliament, but the signal change has been the creation of the old Labour Party ('LP') as effectively politically unelectable in this country. We have seen forced change after forced change bringing the LP to its political knees to such an extent that it is now wholly in favour of substantially increased powers for the SP - a position that the late Donald Dewar would never have considered. Beyond that the think of one George Robertson - 'devolution will kill the SNP stone dead' - is probably the classic political mis-judgement of recent years.

These things suggest to me that the greatest achievement of the SP has been to foster changes in the Scottish people themselves. The politicos of all parties that now unite to seek greater powers for the SP have been driven by the will of the people - a people growing in confidence by the seismic changes of the last election result.

Long may that continue!

Now, if only the SP could get to grips over the next few years or so with the overwelmingly burdensome reach of local government!! (and itself, or a suitable combination thereof!).

Don't think this is the case at all!

It's a matter of principle not one of interpretation.

Scripture is very clear that God created woman for man as he saw that the man needed a companion. God then created woman out of man, so there was a further 'binding together'. God never created woman for woman or man for man; and when the Lord Jesus came into the world, he came into a male/female relationship, as indeed did his forerunner, John the Baptist. There is not the slightest reference to God creating same sex relationships, whereas Scripture is replete with God creating and condoning and blessing different sex relationships.

And, no minister, indeed no person can follow the teachings of Christianity to the letter since we are all sinners!

Interesting the different standards being applied to this situation.

If the good reverend was a politician and switched sides from Labour to SNP (say) there would be a mighty outcry for him to resign and stand for re-election on his new ticket.

It's not so different with the rev - he was ordained a minister when he was a heterosexual, but now that he has 'switched sides' so to speak should his ordination not be called into question and he should be asked to apply again??

How he can reconcile preaching the Scriptures when he lived on one side of the sexual divide, with now preaching the Scriptures when he has moved to the other side raises huge questions of integrity that he (and his apologists) need to get to grips with pretty quickly.
