Has he got a Legg to stand on? 10:06am on 13 Oct 2009 balancedthought, you don't appear particularly balanced. The fixation with Cameron could suggest that you are another NuLab lacky desperate to fling some mud around hoping that some might stick.

Cameron claimed interest repayments on a second home. The reason no-one is making a big deal of it is that they are all at it. You want an example, take the odious Mr and Mrs Balls. They have a rather modest house in one of their constituencies and a whopping house in North London. London is where they spend a significant proportion of their time. I understand their children go to a (private, of course) school nearby. Which one would you think is their designated main home and which is the second. I'll give you a clue, if the second home is in London, they can claim (double of course) for the interest repayments in the mortgage...
Has he got a Legg to stand on? 09:12am on 13 Oct 2009 If the MPs are so sure of themselves, let's hand the whole process over to the Police. They can then conduct criminal inquiries into fraud. The basis being that the overriding rule at the time, as now, was:

"wholly, exclusively and necessarily incurred for the purposes of carrying out their duties as an MP"

Any claim that cannot be justified in these terms the MP should then face prosecution. During the trial they will then have the chance to argue whether a 2000 quid garden set met that criteria in front of a jury.

If they can be appeased with promises of "we'll do something later" then they deserve the trouncing they will get in the general election. If they believe any of Gordon's promises, despite the evidence that he doesn't intend to do anything about this, they are more stupid than they appear.

It really says something when a labour government is whipping its backbenchers to ensure that the lowest paid members of our society have to suffer a tax rise to pay for a tax cut for the middle and well off.

Just because you are choosing to ignore the facts doesn't make them go away.

It is about an un-named (but recently ennobled) EU Trade Commissioner, who was very good friends with a Russian aluminium magnate, and the reduction in EU import tariffs for alumunium during the tenure if that Commissioner.

However, our noble Lord insists that they never discussed these tariffs.

Make of that what you will but I would suggest that Mandy isn't the first person to be questioning the honesty of others.

The first time for lying about his mortgage application. The second for "assisting" his friend with a passport application then lying about that too.

Would that be the one where aluminium magnate Oleg Someone is a close friend of the European Minister for Trade. They obviously had no discussions at all on tariffs for aluminium foil imports to the EU.

In a completely unrelated development, twice in 3 years said Minister for Trade lowered the tariffs for aluminium imports into the EU.
What would Tories cut? 5:48pm on 30 Jun 2009 Interesting headline, anyone would think it was trying to distract from the very disturbing news that G Brown is denying Her Majesty's Opposition the information to which they are entitled.

Alongside the news that:

- In breach of protocol, G Brown and his Balls turned up for a photocall at a school without informing either the local MP or Council and attempted to prevent them being there once they did find out. http://conservativehome.blogs.com/centreright/2009/06/how-not-to-be-prime-ministerial-on-a-pm-visit.html

- Ed Balls ringing up a journalist and demanding that he remove a piece that accurately describes his falseheads in presenting the growth in UK debt. http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/3725688/talking-balls.thtml

It does make you wonder exactly what country Brown and co think they live in. I don't use the word govern deliberately as that would imply some sense of competence which is totally unwarranted.
Battle of the budgets 11:45am on 15 Jun 2009 The incredibly tragic thing about Balls' 10% thing is that it was calculated (by Fraser Nelson) based on the spending plans in Labour's budget.

As usual it is hidden in the detail as Brown doesn't have the Balls to be honest but the budget states, in black and white, that Labour will CUT SPENDING ACROSS ALL DEPARTMENTS BY 7%.

The 10% comes from the fact that the Tories have commited to protecting the NHS from this and hence further cuts are necessary in other departments.
