EU opts for Belgian leader 00:58am on 20 Nov 2009 The new and first president of Europe is a proved good negociator and speaks five or six languages. This alone is a good start. He is also from a state, Belgium, that it is a small sample of what Europe is. My only regret against Van Rompuy is his past opposition to the Turkey accession in the EU. But he might change his mind now over the Turkish aspirations.

The election of Lady Ashton seems very appropiate as well. She is a British europhile woman and she knows in depth the new Lisbon Treaty.

The fact that both characters are far from political celebrities is in my opinion an advantage more than an incovenient: it is a new era from the scratch. Who on earth would like to see again Tony Blair on the news in a daily basis?
A tough pitch for Blair 09:53am on 31 Oct 2009 I cannot imagine anyone in Europe giving support to Blair. However, it is deplorable that his compatriot David Cameron refused this week to endorse the Blair's candidacy. Moreover, the big picture of UK role in the EU, especially over the Lisbon Treaty, is embarrasing. Do not get surprised, dear Brits, if you have no support at all inside the club. You do not even have the ex friends from Scandinavia or the Netherlands. Hang on, you still count with Latvia.
A tough pitch for Blair 00:51am on 30 Oct 2009 I wouldn't like Blair as EU President. He represents one of the darkest episodes in recent European history over the Iraq war. Blair, go for contemplation or retreat in a ranch!

I would support though David Miliband as EU Foreign Affairs Minister. He is a young and fresh face, and he is a recognized Europhile.

I found very interesting your Panorama report on the Iranian elections, and appreciate your quite objective tone. It was surprising for me to discover that there was an anti-islamic terrorist attack one year ago.
A walk on the Wilders side 5:12pm on 03 Jun 2009 I don't like this Wilders, and hope few people follow him. However I find sad that he has to be over-protected. It's also stupid, in my view, that the UK didn't allow him to get into the country, while we have with us individuals like Abu Qatada.
Big city blues 5:10pm on 20 May 2009 To catch the German "grandeur" I suggest to visit middle size cities, like Munster, which has nothing to envy from the Renaissance Italian towns.
Big city blues 4:47pm on 20 May 2009 I live in London and don't have the feeling of being in England (or UK), but in an international city. It is very much the same in my birth city, Barcelona, mostly populated by foreigners.
Big city blues 10:18am on 20 May 2009 I think Berlin does not reflect at all what Germany is, at least not the western and southern sides of the country. The German capital is much poorer than lander like the very rich Nord-Rhein-Westfallen. This does not come as a surprise, bearing in mind the geography and the history of Berlin.
