Why 'Team GB'? 11:05am on 04 Sep 2009 Whilst I'd agree that to many in Northern Ireland who see themselves as British or Irish this isn't a big deal. to those however who see themselves and Northern Irish it is a very big deal.

for Team GB to say "its not our fault" is silly, they use the term and the logo all the time. For the BBC to say it "isn't our fault" is also silly just because the Americans will call it Team GB doesn't mean you have to.
Our tabloid newspapers referred to the duchess of York as "fergie" and the former Deputy Prime Minister as "Prezza" for years and this didn't force the BBC to change from use of the correct terminology.

What is worrying is the poor standard of basic education in the United Kingdom that leads to many of its residents (particularly those in England) having no idea about the the history or correct terminology for the various constituents of the country, more galling than the term Team GB is the ignorance of people who feel they need to get money changed to travel from Heathrow to Belfast, who think different passports may be needed , but assume the department of children Schools and Families, or the department of Health From England and Wales exist and control, throughout the Union.

If we were to introduce a National Identity exam for those who want a UK passport I dread to think how many people born and residing within England would fail it.

Being flippant with individuals identities means nothing to those who are not affected but a great deal to those that are. Just ask a Canadian; North Americans the may be, as we are Europeans, but American's they are not. we go to great lengths to get the correct names for many of eastern European Nations that have emerged to independence in the last decade, time for the Beeb and the UK Olympic team to stop blaming others and sort it out, the tabloid public will follow...
Another council by-election 10:27am on 07 Jul 2009 languishing_first my point is he's repaying/repaid as a result of the article he has not repaid without being found out. (and as of yesterday morning his party leader was unsure if he has actually repaid as yet)

Were it not for the article at the weekend we would not have been reimbursed.

its all about Greed and lack of respect quite frankly 7 days into the whole MP's expenses scandal every single one of them could, and should have reviewed their claims and repaid anything that on reflection didn't appear too good. weeks on they get no sympathy from me and no respect. these leaders of our nation have all kept their heads in the sand and hoped they would not get found out rather than having the dignity and decency to apologise and hand back the cash BEFORE the press got to them.
Another council by-election 1:17pm on 06 Jul 2009 All MP's have had a chance to review their entire claims as part of the redacting process, and plenty of motivation over the last month to go back and check if there is anything that on reflection they wish to reconsider.

There is no longer any creditability is saying oops and offering to pay it back. Jeffrey like all the rest who are now being found out clearly have no respect for the public, he has kept his head down and hoped he would not be found out and only attempts to be honourable after the spotlight has fallen on him too little too late time to resign!
Westminster expenses 11:01am on 18 Jun 2009 I've only had a chance to look through my own mp's expenses this morning - Nigel Dodds
I'm surprised at the number of things blanked out, addresses account numbers etc. I expected but lots of items for "other - please specify" have also been blanked out so clearly way too secret or important to be made available to us. I'm trying to think of anything sensitive about an expense claim other than personal details (He also gets way to many taxi's at our expense)

A local Unionist (protestant traditionalist) and a National parliamentary one (loosely unionist, significantly conservative?) allowing for a broader appeal to the wider population of NI and strong competition for the double/triple jobbing DUP?

If Labour and the Tories can get a foothold here at the next general election for National politics it may in the longterm erode the parochial backward facing politics we have at Stormount by the following election

I'm neither a Tory nor a Unionist, but think the opportunities for looking forward that this opens can only be a good thing in the long run.

Interesting documentary but it covered such a broad area, it had a desperately light touch. any plans to dig a little deeper?
Enniskillen Update 11:21am on 20 Aug 2008 so If Arleen is determined to join her DUP colleagues in becoming a double jobber and part time minister.. can we make her promise to only claim a part time salary and part time expenses and privileges? part time constituency funding? part time constituency staff? or perhaps she wants to job share with another colleague?

how can a jobs for the boys candidate be seen as a unity candidate?

and as per usual for the DUP - the mature platform she's running on "vote for Arleen or the shinners might get in"
BAA break-up 3:12pm on 19 Aug 2008 Rudd and the BAA board have clearly been expecting this for some time, hence the appointment of Colin Mathews, his entire career history is breaking up and outsourcing for overly large corporations...

I'm not sure where the news in this article is or surprise that BAA will have to De-merge some of its assets has come from?
