Stem cell decision imminent 03:13am on 07 Mar 2009 Thank goodness this ridiculous religiously motivated ban is being revoked. Finally, medical research can go ahead unimpeded! We'll at long last have the resources needed to fight diseases like Diabetes and forms of cancer. It's a great day for all of those who are compassionate about saving lives.
Brown's free trade message 11:38pm on 04 Mar 2009 As an American, I find the continuing relationship with the UK as extremely valuable and important. The UK, unlike Mexico, China, and Russia, is a stable ally with moral standards similar to those of Americans (not necessarily American politicians, though). I welcomed Mr. Brown's visit to the US, and I think that it should be made clear that the UK will always be America's #1 ally. As for the fact that he got no applause, that's sad. He really deserved it. I don't see how the economic crisis is his fault at all, as it was mainly Bush's lack of oversight that caused it...

As for the protectionist policies being adopted, I welcome them greatly. It's time that America begins to stop giving all of our resources and money to other nations, and begin to focus on us for a change. Losing jobs and industries to countries overseas has been, in my opinion, the main cause of America's diminishing influence over the last 40 years. I'm not saying that we should completely isolate ourselves, but we need to begin helping ourselves again for once. And other countries should realize that the US government has an obligation to its citizens to provide and protect their jobs and make sure that America continues to grow and prosper. And America CAN'T grow and prosper if we continue to give all of our industrial resources overseas.
American power lives on 7:10pm on 08 Jan 2009 Finally, a dose of common sense. I've been getting increasingly annoyed with the doomsday people who think that the end of America as we know it is over and how China will rule the world. It's just not realistic. The recent financial crisis has proved that the old adage "When America sneezes, the world catches a cold" is still very much true today. The world is still extremely dependent on the United States.

The United States has faced greater challenges than the ones we face now, such as the Great Depression. Like the Great Depression though, the US has a unique opportunity to come out greater than ever before, as a force for good, and as a force for change. When the people get as restless with the status quo as they are now, and with new leadership coming in, I don't see how things can't get better for the US, and consequentially, the world.

I am always hearing all the bad things that the Obama campaign has done, yet I never hear a bad word against the McCain campaign. This has got to stop.
How much trouble is Obama really in? 00:15am on 07 Aug 2008 I just don't get why you're continually focusing on Obama and ignoring McCain. The same is true with the media! I don't think I've seen a negative McCain article since this charade began! Why all of this Obama hate? Why focus only on Obama's mistakes? It just doesn't make sense to me...
A handshake too far? 11:20pm on 28 Jul 2008 I think it's ridiculous that people are making such a big deal out of a handshake. Who cares if he shook hands with a police officer? What does it matter? He has the right to shake whoever's hand he wants to! Why must every action that a candidate takes (though, this blog and the press have been seemingly only doing this to Obama, completely ignoring McCain) be analyzed for some hint of their personality or some flaw in it? I think this is a ridiculous activity that needs to end.
Gun crazy? 4:54pm on 26 Jun 2008 I've always thought that the bigger question was if it is constitutional to require licenses or other things to limit who got guns.

As an American, I believe in the right to bear arms, but I think as it is, there needs to be better regulation as to who gets a gun, seeing how so many mentally unstable people are getting them.

Anyway, back to the main point of the article. I think that the DC ban on handguns and the tight regulation of rifles was going too far, especially in the nations capital, the home of the constitution! I personally don't see how the constitution isn't clear in the matter of the right to bear arms, so I think the ruling was in general a good one.
The strange death of social conservatism 11:46pm on 24 Jun 2008 I don't believe that social conservatism has died. If it had, believe me, I'd be the first to rejoice.

Many polls suggest that the lack of social conservative support for McCain could be disastrous to his campaign, especially in states like Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida where Obama is continually gaining ground.

I agree, it has weakened slightly due to George Bush and his administration, but I think it has by no means ended.
The gas-price election 3:34pm on 18 Jun 2008 Although it is hard to tell what will happen with McCain's support, I can see a number of possibilities. It could rally Republicans behind a more solid issue, making them look like the party that's better suited to dealing with the oil crisis. Another possibility is that it could alienate coastal and environmentalist Republicans causing a split, even if it's only small, that could cause serious damage to McCain's chances of winning the election in November.

The "wild card" of this move is the independents. It's hard to tell what they will do. It probably depends on their region. The independents on the coast, fresh from memories of oil disasters off the coast of California, may back closer to Obama; and the one's more inland and towards the eastern coast may move towards McCain.

Whatever the case, the Democrats will still be united behind their environmentalist standings. Little will change with them because they've stayed on the same side of the issue all along.
