Murphy's law 6:00pm on 03 Oct 2008 So Des Browne felt that accepting the singular office of Secretary of State for Scotland would be perceived as an insult to the armed forces; what about the voters of Kilmarnock and Loudoun, should they feel insulted by such a statement accredited as it is in the media to Mr Browne?

If they feel insulted, which I as a resident of Fife feel, perhaps it is time to record their distaste for Mr Browne's statement when next confronted with their ballot paper at the next General Election.

This has more to do with Mr Browne's ego than any claimed slight upon the Armed Forces!

I have to date been impressed with what little I have observed of Mr Murphy's performances.
Nuclear exchange 09:37am on 26 Sep 2008 You are correct Brian, the waste issue is less germane and in reality never was, but was manipulated to restrict our nuclear generation program; this industry was held up as the monster under the bed or in the cupboard by those who do not fully understand the nuclear industries and its processes or chose intentionally to misrepresent the nuclear 'elements' playing as they do on the public's lack of information on this issue.

Do those same individuals who attempt to instantly gain green or my preference of hippy credentials because they seem convinced by vast numerical values of half-lives of the heavy elements, many of which are naturally occurring, or is it more a case of we do not understand therefore 'we' oppose?

The human race do have a track record of persecution through ignorance.

The reality is that nuclear power offers the only realistic green option for acceptable levels of electricity generation to meet consumer demands.

The Scottish Nuclear Dimension:

I have always been against Scotland being used as an area far enough away from London to become acceptable to locate nuclear generation sites, underground nuclear waste storage and nuclear weapon delivery systems without Scotland fully benefitting from the other side of the coin.

I equally find the SNP's attitude to the EDF buyout as duplicitous; in my view you are either for or against nuclear generation of electricity, not as it appears based on a French versus Westminster preference.
The lipstick strategy 11:48am on 23 Sep 2008 Mistaking the National Broadcaster's inadequate attempts at balance for bias is a commonly made mistake and clearly indicates a superficial perception of their charter and a clear misinterpretation of their subsequent reporting of politics both at home and abroad.

Readers must cover complete articles by the National Broadcaster's political journalists to determine whether balance is being applied or merely being paid some form of lip service; pro Labour, Conservative or Liberal comments may simply be window dressing producing as they do evidence albeit inadequate of attempts at balanced reporting.

Any whirring sounds may be John Reith spinning in his grave.
The lipstick strategy 08:27am on 23 Sep 2008 It is obvious, at least to myself, that it is the feral pack who are driving the anti Brown campaign; I being neither a Gordon Brown nor a Labour supporter find it strange that such acts seem to go unnoticed or without comment.

David Miliband makes a speech and the first question that a political commentator asks of delegates and politicians is "was that the speech of the next Labour leader?"

Now I am fully well aware that press and broadcast journalists from independent companies are merely stoking fires of contentious debate to in increase the revenue from advertising, the very lifeblood of these organisations, but you would think that they would show some respect to the public's intelligence and cease from their rabble rousing.
In the case of a state broadcaster we witness their political editor's attempts to mask his inherent political bias which he has held since he was the Chairman of the Young Conservatives.

Press journalists and the printed press as we know it are doomed; they but a few years to exist; we may then move through a phase of free 'newspapers' in order that socioeconomically targeted advertising can continue to be delivered.

Is it not about time that press and broadcast journalists started complying with their job descriptions, at least the job descriptions they admit to publicly, that of reporting the news, not trying to create the news?

Labour's caretaker leader will merely be keeping the seat warm until they can find a bona fide leader; could such a viable leader become available if Labour are routed at the next General Election; will Scottish politics suddenly become meaningful when viewed in comparison to the dole queue?
Take five 12:49pm on 09 Sep 2008 Irrespective of the outcome, the winner produced by this suspect voting system will still be little more than an also ran; no matter how many protestations ar delivered of being their own man/woman they will all kowtow to the Labour Leader at Westminster.
