Mika - 'Rain' 9:56pm on 02 Dec 2009 Even the people defending the review have been agreeing that Fraser is being nasty about Mika - but that's not really true: it's NOT a personal attack.

Saying that Mika doesn't come across as having much charisma, and more resembles a children's tv presenter than a pop star is relevant, because if you're performing in a pop video, then the impression you make is part of its success or otherwise!

If Fraser thinks Mika isn't convincing, and says so in a humorous way, that's not the same as calling him a failed human being!

Also, the production on this sounds really old fashioned to me, which is possibly not the intention - unless I'VE lost the plot!

Well, like most people, I like loads but lately I've loved The Candle Thieves, Goldheart Assembly, Florence And The Machine, The Killers, Paolo Nutini, Wild Beasts (and The Beatles!)... and I'm bound to have forgotten someone else that I liked best of all!

Robbie Williams is a favourite too, but I'm not sure about this latest song... He can carry off practically anything, but it's a bit something and nothing!

The Killers - 'A Dustland Fairytale' 9:49pm on 04 Aug 2009 I can see where Hazel's coming from with the idea that the epic sound and metaphorical lyrics could be the result of "boring egoism" leading to self-parody. Or it could be genuine... it's difficult judge that one way or the other (even if you do know the background to the writing of it).

Listening to it, I found it moving, which is all you can ask of a song...
