Looking forward to the Olympic year to come 09:08am on 23 Dec 2009 Hi Roger, interesting blog as always.

1. Winter Olympics - Do you know when the BBC tv coverage details will be added to the website as I'm really looking forward to it and would like to plan my viewing. If the actual times aren't finalised yet, can you give a rough indication. I think an Olympic day is about 5pm to 5am, will you be covering all of it live? Can I also appeal again for a new theme tune, just like you do with the Summer games, as this makes it more special than using the Ski Sunday theme.

2. London Ceremonies - I have some ideas that I would like to submit for the ceremonies, do you know who I could send these to?

3. World Cup - When is the meeting with ITV to decide the split of matches between the BBC and ITV? As I have Sky HD, I want the best games on the BBC for the full HD experience! Also as two games kick off in the afternoon and only one in the evening, is there any chance of a 6pm to 7pm highlights show on BBC2 before the evening live game, catching up on the afternoon matches?

4. Commonwealth Games - Unless I missed it, I didn't see this advertised in the list of BBC sporting events in 2010 that you showcased after Sports Personality of the Year. Please can you confirm that you have the rights to this? If you do, will you still be able to show in HD?

5. Mascots - I own every single Olympic and World Cup mascot in history from every tournament and I am eagerly awaiting to see what London 2012 has to offer. A British bulldog would be nice, but no doubt it will be some computer generated creature in the shape of the logo! As part of the Winter Olympic coverage can you please feature the three mascots at some stage, and also showcase the leopard Zakumi for the World Cup. As a collector of the macots, it is lovely to see the real things! One of the Vancouver mascots, Quatchi, is particularly adorable. Would be lovely if you could include their images as part of your opening titles. As the excellent Berlino proved at the World Athletics Championships last August, the mascots can be an integral part of the event.

I have a number of comments regarding the BBC coverage of the major sporting events. I am a huge fan of the major events and always find the BBCs theme tunes of great importance when remembering an event afterwards, eg Nessun Dorma for Italia 90.

1. Just before the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, I e-mailed the BBC editor of the Winter Olympics coverage and asked for a specific theme tune for the Winter Olympics, in line with Summer Olympics, World Cup etc. I was told it was a great idea and to "watch this space", but we still ended up with the Ski Sunday theme! Although to be fair you closed programmes with the fantastic Andrea Boccelli theme instead. Is there any chance we can have a new theme for Vancouver 2010 rather than Ski Sunday. You mention above when somebody mentioned about the Grandstand theme being used for 2012 as it was inappropriate as you wanted something for 2012 and not the 1970s. So how about something for 2010 and not the 1970s too?

2. Any news yet on the theme tunes for the World Cup and Commonwealth Games next year?

3. Is there any chance of getting the BBC sport interactive streams added to the Sky+ and Sky+ HD guides in order that I can record my favourite sports through the night for the Winter Olympics coverage. It seems such a shame that all of these multiscreens exist and I cannot record them, and will have to record the main BBC coverage instead which then has more chat than I like. I just want to see the action. Can the BBC get this added in the same way Sky has for Football First where you can record highlights of the game of your choice.

4. For the 2012 Olympics, are there any plans to have more than one HD channel available. I have HD at present and obviously prefer to watch my events in HD, but again it is a shame that there are lots of events on multiscreen that I can watch but with a picture that isn't as sharp. It would be great if you could watch a number of events in HD in 2012.

5. Can we have a feature on the World Cup mascot at the draw ceremony on Friday please. He is a lovely leopard called Zakumi.

Berlino the Bear - love him or loathe him? 6:59pm on 23 Aug 2009 Brilliant. Thank you BBC for doing exactly what I asked in the opening post. The feature at the start of the programme was superb and thanks to all involved for their humour when meeting him in the studio.

I love him and I think whoever is inside that costume should be interviewed (can we get Phil Jones on to this please....). The person inside should also given the job of being inside the costume of the London 2012 games mascot when that is announced.

I want to buy a fluffy mascot to keep as a souvenir but I notice they are all sold out at the official shop on the official website? I wonder why? Everybody wants one now...

Any chance one of the BBC team can get hold of one for me????

Is there any chance that we could have a dedicated theme tune for the Winter Olympics coverage? I asked in 2006 and was told this was a good idea but you still went with the Ski Sunday theme. Although you did include Andrea Boccelli as a theme to end each programme which was great.

The summer olympics has had its own theme since 1984 and I think it is time the winter olympics did too.

Also, can you confirm the games will be in HD? Have you any ideas of how much coverage you are intending to show? Historically it is much less than the summer games and I know a lot of the events have to take place in daylight, which will be evening our time? However if coverage is to continue through the night I would like to plan ahead and arrange to take time off work!

Finally, would love to see a blog similar to this for the other major 2010 events including the World Cup and Commonwealth Games. Also are you covering the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa (a test event for the World Cup). I would love to see that on the BBC and get a feel for what we can expect at the World Cup.
Problems at the IBC 3:06pm on 26 Jun 2008 Considering there will have been a global audience of hundreds of millions, I found it strange that the match continued.

Once it was known that the satellite link had been lost, why was a messgae not cascaded to the referee to halt play at the next natural break in play.

Surely it makes sense to delay the game for TV pictures to return to normal?

Whether we like it or not, TV companies pay big money for huge sporting events like these, and they and their sponsors deserve better.

Imagine if the same thing happened in Beijing at the Opening Ceremony? Would we continue with the ceremony knowing the world was not watching, and miss the lighting of the flame? I think not!

Common sense must prevail.

One final point, I am fortunate enough to have a motorised dish and was able to watch the Klose goal live on ZDF coverage who switched to showing pictures from Swiss TV. How come the BBC did not use the Swiss pictures?
Quiz Hansen 2:11pm on 17 Jun 2008 I run a Euro 2008 competition and one of my questions was how many direct free kicks would be scored in the tournament. There is a dispute whether Ballack's goal is a direct free kick as I am sure that the ball was squared to him and it stopped dead before he hit it. The replays only show him hitting the dead ball, but I am convinced that it wasn't the dead ball from the original free kick award.

I know this may sound a technicality, as all sites including your own seem to say it is a free-kick, but I would appreciate your view as to whether or not it should be classed as a direct free kick or not.

Can you please let me have your views as it affects the marks to our competition!!
