Worthy or wasteful? 1:00pm on 21 Apr 2009 When is a cut an efficency saving? When you don't actually save anything but are to foolish to think anyone notices. Efficiency savings are a way of showing less jobs by transferring from department to department or job title to job title.

This is a great New Labour trick. They waste billions on IT projects etc and then claim "efficiency" savings by transferring staff between departments or removing them from the headcount and then employ them as temporary staff or contractors. Certain large multi-nationals have been doing this for years.
Sorry for what? 1:03pm on 06 Mar 2009 Gordon brown is a man who blames everyone for what has happened but dnies any personal responsibility. How about saying sorry for:

1. Enron style accounting: The government keeping PFI, Northern rock etc off teh government's books.

2. Regulation: Let us not forget that it was Gordon who set up the tripartite regulation framework that failed so septacularly.

3. City greed: He told us that the city bonuses were an important contribution to our taxes every year.

4. Poor auditing control: This applies to both private and public sectors. The accountancy firms are to involved in consultancy and other services to be independent in their core duty.

5. Autocratic management: He believes that he knows best in all situations, fails to show any humility to those who disagree, lacks real empathy with the people he works for (us).

6. Fails to acknowledge that he has done anything that has contributed to this mess but put most of the blocks into place that have led to our economic woes.
Howls of protest 8:51pm on 01 Oct 2008 I agree that associating himself with Mrs T is a good thing for Dave. She was the novice and had the guts, brains and determination to change Britain for the better. Yes, some of her policies weren't right but we needed her and she was in the right place at the right time.

Look at what the previous 2 labour adminstrations had done to the country and how they'd coped with the economic crisis at the time.

We needed a leader with the skills and obstinacy of Mrs T to pull the country around and too make the hard choices that others would have fled from.

Dave needs to be the same kind of man, willing to take unpopular decisions that will improve the country we live in. Now is the time and the man cometh.
Letter to America 1:06pm on 18 Apr 2008 Brown is on a loser here. Contrasting himself to Kennedy is a no win situation. He lacks the charisma, charm, wit and good looks of JFK.

JFK was no great intellectual but he was a great communicator, something the dour Brown isn't. JFK had passion and could draw people in - Brown has neither.

Where they are similar is that neither truly fufilled the promise that people had in them. For JFK it was partly because he died to soon but with Brown we were promised so much and he's delivered so little.

Brown is not the political heavyweight that we were promised. Rather than being an Ali, Forman or Lewis he's a second rate flyweight.
