Ratio Ga Ga 7:11pm on 24 Nov 2009 STV would be a dream solution, it breaks the strangle hold of parties and gives power to the people to decide who is elected, it also gives a far more representative result. Unfortunately that is not the gift of the Boundary Commission. For that I think we will have to wait for part 4 of the GOWA 2006 when the National Assembly will be able to legislate for such a change. It might reinvigorate local politics by removing the concept of a safe seat and where individual councillors will have to perform to the satisfaction of the electorate if they want to hold their seats. I had a look at some of the proposals, its sensible to reapportion representation when populations shift, and its not a bad idea to try to equalise the quota for a councillor, but local circumstances are still important.
Peace in our time? 7:03pm on 24 Nov 2009 Again what evidence is there that Labour party members oppose devolution or the coalition agreement. Certainly sections of the Labour party at all levels do, but no section voted against the coalition.
First Minister's statement 6:55pm on 24 Nov 2009 More Hain mischief making, what is the point of a coalition government when important policy decisions are made without consulting the other party in the coalition. Regardless of between who this is just not acceptable behaviour. Again its party first and nation second. When will Labour learn that it does not have a monopoly of power in Wales. This is wider than the coalition, this is something that all parties have a say in.

It was not a yes campaign and requests for a million of public money to push for a no vote is absurd. It knows that, you know that, to say it was a yes campaign is a complete lie, are you saying that its chair was a liar when he specifically refuted that allegation?

Notonationalism where is your evidence that there is a majority of Labour Party members against devolution or the One Wales coalition? Please produce some.
Ratio Ga Ga 9:02pm on 23 Nov 2009 Less I am not sure of, qudos to Welshknot and thegnatswatter for serving their community on the council. Yes much of what they do is somewhat boring, someone has to do it though. Plus all the casework, councillors are expected to be social workers and miracle workers with regards to fixing the ills of their community. Contrary to popular belief we have rather few councillors, certainly far fewer than when we had community, district and county councils, and far less than when we had parish, rural district, urban district, municipal borough, county borough and county councils. Plus compared to most of Europe we have fewer elected officials per head of the population. There is some sense in equalising the number of people represented by councillors and there is always a need for readjusting representation to take into account population movements. The boundary commission is totally neutral in its work, but obviously does not live in a total vacuum - they have some direction from the government, and that is true of if you live in Wales or England. Personally I'd give them the general guidelines of what to achieve and let them get on with it.

Yes, probably. 8:22pm on 22 Nov 2009 No I wasn't in Carmarthen but Labour members voted for the One Wales agreement in the conference, and all polling shows a majority of Labour members in favour of devolution.

As for compulsory Welsh lessons Jack is wrong the tories made it part of the national curriculum in Wales and made it compulsory throughout Wales.

Merry Christmas 8:18pm on 22 Nov 2009 I wish to censor no one, but it absurd to discuss a division of Wales when no one supports or wants that. If more want that then lets discuss that somewhere appropriate, but here isn't the right place or time, this is a discussion on a minor upgrade to the powers of the National Assembly. Independence is not on the agenda.

And Stonemason your credibility takes an even sharper dive if you continue to suggest that Plaid want a soviet style state in Wales.

More to the point when are you going to admit that you want to abolish the NHS and public funded education?
