Piracy: Did someone blink? 1:42pm on 16 Jun 2009 Various industries complain that file sharing is costing them business and is causing them to loose money......except what if the file sharer was never going to buy the product even if there was no choice to pirate?

In some cases the industries dont help because they dont allow people to get the full song such as the 30 seconds on itunes or never release demos (such as with video games) meaning that piracy is the only way to sample the product.

Unlimited deals can work but only if they are cheap enough for the various demographics (e.g. teens/kids) and they feature most record labels. Or make the product cheaper online, the game service Steam has a weekend offer every week which is where I buy most of my games.

In the end though Piracy is a fact of life and these policies wont prevent the many and instead of trying to stop the pirates they should ask the pirates why they do it to sought out their own mess especially in these times when many people can't afford their products.

I have used both OS but the simple reason why I dont use Linux is down to its difficulty.

Windows on the other hand is alot more simple .

However education is also important. At my school the simple reason why they would never use open source is because they fear that someone who knows the source code could have snuck soething malicious into it.

Linux I am afraid in its current form is doomed to the niche market.
The iPod tax resurfaces 08:32am on 18 Apr 2008 Do you know what the irony is? Its the fact that if they start taxing the devices for copying music the consumers legally own then the manufacturers will stop including this function with the devices (e.g. itunes, etc.).

This means people will likely have to either repurchase their music or more likely pirate it.

this means that they still dont get the money and they are more likely to loose more money over time as people dont want to "own" to copies of the same songs.

I believe that the music industry should grow up and relaise that in the digital age they will NEVER get full control of everything like its 1984.
