Howard's freedom medal 10:25pm on 14 Jan 2009 Bush called Howard the man of iron. I prefer to call him the man of chipboard. Howard should be a friend of Bush as they both aspire to ultra-right wing politics. Both of them believe if it is good for business then it is good for the people. Surely, now we know how wrong they were, as most of the world is in recession, because of the greed of merchant bankers. I worked hard to get rid of Howard and his disgusting cabinet and I considered it was one of the best days work I put in. Now I want him to disappear off my TV screen as I am an Australian and despised his unAustralian attitude to anything that was not Anglo-Saxon. Howard is little in stature, and acted to try and appear big, while his actions proved how little he was.
Going outside the flags 10:16pm on 03 Jan 2009 We will survive as Australians care about each other (mateship) and we will work to overcome the problems the yanks caused. We only have 3 more boring months of cricket and then Aussie Rules starts again, so there is always something bright on the horizon. We are used to adversary ( droughts and flooding rains) so we have the courage to overcome these events forced on us by so called powers. So break out the seafood and open another VB or a great Aussie white wine, and enjoy life with your beautiful Aussie wife mate.
The Howard Years 11:50pm on 24 Dec 2008 Nick, the Australian people made a decision on Howard's right-wing politics and rejected him and his government. Howard was only one of two Prime Ministers who were dismissed in an election. The first was more British than most of the English preferring to live there rather than Australia. The second was more American and held dear the policies of the Bush administration. I am an Australian and proud of my country's achievements, but I was so disgusted with the Howard Government, because it was so un-Australian. All I seek now is for Howard to shut up, realise he was rejected by his fellow Australians, and retire and I do not care where. Just disappear off my television as I am so repulsed by his image as he represents everything I do not believe in.

Growing tall 11:04pm on 04 Dec 2008 Australians live in a country with a very short history. Most of our early settlers came in the gold-rush era and were working class English and of course Irish. Australian have a disgust of arrogant English aristocrats and brash overbearing Americans. Australians are in the main caring, helpful and have a humour unique to them. To meet real Australians you need to visit rural areas where people experience the hardship of our environment. These people have learnt to stick together, and this is where 'mateship' was born, and is the single thing that makes me proud of being an Australian. I have seen the film Australia and enjoyed it immensely because it showed the hardship of living in the harsh climate of the northern areas of Australia. Secondly, it showed our aboriginal culture of caring for the land. The best part of the film was Nicole kidman's portrayal of an arrogant English aristocrat that became a caring person because of the environment she came to live in. I care for Nicole because she has had to endure the Hollywood publicity machine but shows how glad she is when she returns to Australia as I did after living and teaching in Essex for 4 years. Unfortunately, English and Americans will never understand Australian because they are completely different in their culture, and will never comprehend aboriginal culture.
What Obama win means for Oz 05:38am on 06 Nov 2008 Well it seems the United States of America people followed what we Australians did last November. We removed an ultra right wing government run by John Winston Howard and now George Bush is to be replaced by Barack Obama. I believe that we the people who live on this Earth cannot survive for much longer if we continue to elect right wing conservative governments. I am proud that the USA people have finally woken up. Let us hope that New Zealand and the United Kingdom do not make the disastrous mistake of electing right wing conservative governments. If they do than I will have no sympathy when the get into the same mess as Australia and the USA did.
The stunted country 01:07am on 17 Oct 2008 Nick, Australians did not put the lines on the map of Australia, the English colonial government did. How could they cope with such a big country as England fits into 2/3 of Victoria the smallest mainland state? To abolish the State Governments would require a referendum and history will inform you that they are often rejected. The biggest problem is that Australia has a two-tier political system e.g. Labor and Conservatives (Tory). Consequently, we often have these parties ruling some states and federally. Only recently we found Labor in all states, both territories and federally. We hope the Kevin07 can put a slice through the parochialism that emanates in all states. While visiting Western Australia as a TAFE Queensland officer I had morning tea with the TAFE teachers in a Perth Institute. All they did was bag Victoria, as they were unaware that I was born in that state. On Leaving I remarked that I saw mostly Holdens, Ford or Toyota cars in their car park, and I asked where did they think they were manufactured? Both Victoria and Queensland were created as the people desired to escape New South Wales as they could not work with them. Now you suggest to have the second tier of government as regional councils that are often ruled by the National Party (never). Leave us alone as we need to generate finer Olympic athletes to ensure we finish in front of the UK in London.
Turbulence at Qantas 00:42am on 11 Oct 2008 rejayjosephus should consider the facts about Qantas, they have an air safety record second to none. They also fly further than any other air line except Air New Zealand, I believe the passengers should be thankful that an Australian captain was able to rescue and land the plane safely. Please name any other airline that would have done that and I will inform you on their safety record. We Australians will never allow Qantas to be sold as we have so far to fly to get to Europe or North America and we want Australian pilots up front. Just concentrate on keeping Singapore clean so we can safely pass through to London while our plane is refueled. All I can say is Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi came and experience a real life adventure.
The hidden Olympic effort 07:02am on 25 Aug 2008 Thank you Nick, we Australians are so proud of the efforts of our Olympic team. They won medals in many disciplines for the first time. They were also gracious in defeat, only too ready to congratulate the winners. I, in particular look forward to the Commonwealth games as the silver and bronze will become gold. GB only received one more medal than Aus, but that will inspire us to do better. The next battle between the old enemies is the test matches in England next year and we cannot wait. England should saviour their one medal win as they will be watched by us, and we will resolve to ensure that it does not happen again. We look forward to welcoming our team back home as they are our best ambassadores.
China for gold, Britain for bronze? 00:22am on 22 Aug 2008 Skite all you like, but remember two years from now is the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. One again you will face Australia and then you will once again learn who is the top sporting nation. You will never learn poms, don't you remember the euphioria when you finally retained the ashes, then the big let down in Australia - 5 nil. Annoy us and we will always make you pay. Bing it on I cannot wait.
