Apple's big day 09:32am on 09 Jun 2009 Okay, it was a bit lacklustre. Good, I say. It might stop everyone getting so hyped about it. Jobs does manage to get a bit more zing out of his keynotes, and I doubt he would have been happy with the technical glitches.

I'm pleased the next OS is going to be really cheap, because it's evolutionary and not revolutionary. Although I still don't want one, I am impressed with the iPhone hardware and software upgrades. The hardware revisions to the laptop range are not exactly revolutionary, but still interesting.

And so the world continues to turn.

I can agree with you here. The problem I find is that so much of what is presented to us these days automatically assumes we're stupid and don't already know something about the subject.

I've just watched a clip about English Channel wrecks. It was very interesting. However, I already know what ROV stands for, yet every time the term is used it's also given in full. Why? I already know, and if someone doesn't already know by now then they can use any search engine to find out for themselves. John Humprys felt the need to interject with an expansion on a set of initials earlier this week (I can't recall the exact circumstances, now) but it upset the flow of the discussion remarkably well. I already knew what those initials stood for, and didn't need it explained again.

I just want to be treated as an adult while I consume news. Please don't keep pandering to the lowest common denominator all the time. We're not all morons.

Can we move on from this Twitter obsession now, please? It might appear to be a fun way to communicate, but to my mind it's not improving the sum of human knowledge.

But then, I'm in my mid-40s, overly cynical, and grumpy after a bad night's sleep, so what do I know?

Tools of the trade 1:57pm on 08 Apr 2009 @SJPitchers: No, we're complaining about the whole media circus, and the continual fight for "ratings". This isn't the first time news anchors have been parachuted in to front a new "event", and unless we all compain even more vociferously, it won't be the last.

I, for one, would like to see BBC News concentrate on getting the facts and getting them right, instead of fighting over trying to be first to air the news all the time. I don't care who gets me the news first. I do care about whether that news is accurate and whether it's relevant.

Sending armies of reporters with their attendant entourages is simply not a cost-effective use of my money, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, it's a big story, and finding ways to assist the reporters on the ground is to be applauded. However, the current method is more akin to media vultures, swooping in on a news corpse. Not a nice spectacle, thank you very much.

The number of times BBC execs are hauled up in front of Newswatch to explain why they send a news anchor to cover an event when there are already reporters in the area is huge. Each time we're told that the "policy will be reviewed" and the expense won't happen again. Why do I feel like I'm being lied to?

This really makes me cross. What a waste of my licence fee! Damnit! I'm becoming Angry of Tonbridge Wells, and I'm such a sensible, level-headed person normally!
