That was quite a beautiful thing that happened there with OT. Sorry I missed it earlier. My favourite part is where OT, in the midst of his vigorous reaction, says:

"I'm quite relaxed about it."

Disgusting, of course, and a stark reminder of how far society still has to go. But it's also worthwhile pointing out the following:

1) That this example is isolated enough to provoke such attention is a reminder of how small the support for this kind of hatred really is.

2) 300 members of a Facebook group do not 300 participants in a hate crime make. Lots of immature morons will join because it's edgy, not because they would really participate in the kind of actions described.

3) The real outrage should be directed at the actual crimes. Although the existence of a group like this is clearly something to lament, as William has rightly highlighted, it should always be remembered that the incidents described by reading the group's postings are the real crimes rather than the speaking thereof. (In fact it seems to me that it would be easier for law enforcement to allow the group to exist, thus providing direct links to the perpetrators!)

4) That they were foolish enough to post this stuff on Facebook, linking actual hate crimes with their real identities, should tell us something important about those involved.

Isn't Brian talking about all religious labels being applied to children, and how that applies to the schools system etc? Seems perfectly logical to me, Mr. Morrow. :-)

Well it's no wonder people would like to load Einstein as ammunition into their guns for use in the wider debate over the places of religion and science. Loading Darwin into a gun does no good; he's already (ridiculously, in my opinion) a 'controversial' figure, on one side of the debate. Creationists in particular are pretty desperate and hungry for a widely-accepted eminent scientist to side with them on something as fundamental as whether there is or is not a God, and Einstein is at the top of the pile.

Like theonefromcolorado said above, however, Einstein's religious beliefs prove nothing about either religion or science!

I happen to think OT is more paranoid than spiteful. OT- it seems you have a little work to do if you'd like to generate some understanding on this thread.
