• Changing one's mind 4:39pm on 20 Jun 2008 Jacksforge: I wouldn't go quite so far but I would suggest that Matt Frei's reports have been a little schizophrenic - he seems to suffer bouts of extreme pessimism over Obama's chances and then awakes from them to glow positively about him. Justin has preferred the mocking approach to both Clinton and Obama but seems to bow down before McCain- whether out of fear or genuine admiration, I know not.

• Changing one's mind 10:01am on 19 Jun 2008 The problem is with the media's attitude to Muslims not the Obama campaign's per se. His events draw people of all types. The media can't handle Muslims, though. Worth mentioning too that McCain would love to have the problem of turning non-whites away from events. Or maybe not. In which case a bigger problem with the McCain campaign.
• The gas-price election 02:15am on 19 Jun 2008 Salem, a McCain-Gollum partnership would go down well in Florida wouldn't it? Get all those swamp-dwellers to turn out! On the trail together they could swap stories of torture and whatnot. Or he may be tempted to choose Sauron to help carry the state of Mordor-sota where he is 'governor'. Obama could pick Frodo for his foreign policy expertise and to beef up his national security credentials (whatever those are). Gandalf has also been mentioned but he woud undercut a message of 'change', I believe. Toodlepip.

• The gas-price election 2:23pm on 18 Jun 2008 Here's some more bad news for McCain. The Florida poll suggests that Obama has now 'bounced' in all the 'big key swing states' that Hillary Clinton (remember her, anyone?) would bang on about ad nauseam.

  here. 317.2 to 220.8 EV's means McCain has to try something, and you're right it will likely backfire but what can you do when your opponent has already staked out the smartest positions. The bottom line is the status quo suits Obama fine. It's McCain's turn to move and he will need more courage than he showed in Vietnam to get out of his current hole.
