Class warfare 07:58am on 03 Oct 2008 To tiptoplisomiches point, yes, the dumming down of education is going on in other states-I live in Minnesota. As a society we really don't groom our best and brightest. To the readers question about Ritalin, a VERY high percentage of ADD/ADHD kids tend to be high IQ. There is a disproportionate number of boys on this medication. Boys are over represented in their numbers in special education, on medications and under-represented in going to college. It has gotten to the point where many colleges are resorting to quotas on female students-in other words, higher qualified female applicants are being turned down, so boys with lower scores can be admitted-and this is ALL boys, not just black or latino.

My kids went to Lutheran schools from kindergarten to 8th grade. (until they were 14) The interesting thing comparing King of Grace to the local schools, was that they had a smaller library, limited computer access, teachers were paid less than the public school teachers, yet these kids scored really, really well. The difference? I think that the parents were more involved in their kids' education. You can spend up to 20,000 dollars a year per student in a school system, but if the kid does not hae support at home, food on the table, or an involved parent, all of that money won't to a thing.

Palin's bounce - and Ferraro's 07:55am on 18 Sep 2008 In view of what recently has come out about the Rosenbergs getting fingered by one of their own, Julius Rosenberg deserved the Death penalty-Mrs. Rosenberg deserved jail time, but should not have been put to death.

In my lifetime, I have not seen such a level of hysteria, buzz and hatred against a VP candidate. For whatever reason, the Democrats are afraid of Palin. With all of the attention that Mrs. Palin has recieved, the Democrats seem to have forgotten that McCain is the presidential nominee. The Dems have been going after her-hard- from the get-go. It will only get nastier in the next few weeks.
Zidane waltzes in as Italy bow out 06:01am on 23 Jun 2008 Quickquip-one correction. Zidane was born in France of Algerian Parents, not born in Algeria. In France though, you are considered a "Beur", or North African-unless you are a helluva an athlete-then you are French.

Re: Spain-Italy. I was happy to see Spain win. They played a really stylish game to watch, and were out to put on a good show. Today showed why it it so difficult to root for Italy. The Italians are not afraid to choke the life out of a game, then try to get a smash and grab goal to win it. To be honest, I thought the Italians were playing for penalties. With Buffon, they had to like their chances against almost any team in a penalty shoot out. Casillas was great for Spain. I think the two semifinals will be very intriguing with Russia having some great athletes and the ability to play some attacking football against the skillful Spaniards. The other Semi pitts the Germans against the Turks-that's a match that has the potential for more than a few riots in Germany between skin heads and Turkish immigrants and Germans of Turkish origin. I hope either Spain or the Russians win it all.
Why Clinton lost 06:20am on 10 Jun 2008 Is Mrs. Clinton every guy's nightmare vision incarnate of the mother in law from Hell? Yeah. Did her gender make her lose? I don't think so. If we had a smart, real leader like a Margaret Thatcher, I would vote for her in a heartbeat. Mrs. Clinton is NO Margaret Thatcher, or Ms. Rice, for that matter. She tried to pass off 8 years of being the first lady as being real leadership experience. I think getting caught in the lie about dodging bullets in Bosnia probably sunk the last nail in her coffin. I think in the end, Mr. Obama ran a smarter campaign. For better or worse, he comes accross as likeable, and Americans do have a thing for candidates who are likeable. Unfortunately, it's a habit that has come back to haunt us, when "Likeable" candidates like Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush were elected President-and in my lifetime, they were both the two worst Chief Executives my country has had.(People with short memories forget just how bad of a president Jimmy Carter was) Anyway, I agree with part of what Mr. Webb said in his entry-but in the end, I think Mrs. Clinton did not win because of her lack of integrity and charachter, not because of her gender.
When will the end come? 09:46am on 03 Jun 2008 If the question gets asked if Mr. Obama would consider taking on Mrs. Clinton as a running mate, I would say that with friends like Mrs. Clinton-and bad things seem to befall people who cross the Clintons - Mr. Obama does not need her operating behind his back-and with Bill Clinton pulling the strings. I think Sen. Richardson of New Mexico would be a better choice for a VP candidate. .. All-star teams are not always winning teams, and that would apply to politics just like in sport.
Talent for upsetting 10:27am on 27 May 2008 To be honest, after re-listening the sound bite, I think more than anything, Mrs. Clinton is just mentally fried. I'm not a Hilary a fan, and I am a conservative, I think It was really a confused, rambling talk she had in South Dakota. I think it was a 'brain fart", more than anything purely malicious. I don't think it was in as bad taste as Mr. Huckaby's lame attempt at humour at the NRA convention...all I can say is that I am glad nobody has a microphone in front of me when I am at work at the end of a long night shift...
Choices at the cookout 10:20am on 27 May 2008 I think a lot Americans remember the second term of Ronald Reagan, when he seemed little more than a ventroloquist's dummy, with his wife Nancy supplying most of the words. Even as a conservative, I think the Democrats would have to seriously screw up to not win the election in November...but hey, a year ago at this time I thought Mrs. Clinton was a cinch to win the the Democratic nomination.
Bumper sticker trends 10:16am on 27 May 2008 One thing is for sure, I have not yet seen any McCain auto stickers in my part of the USA.(Minnesota)
Attacking Mrs Obama 10:47am on 23 May 2008 Even as a conservative,I can see where the adds by Tennessee Republicans against Mrs. Obama can seriously boomerang against them. Do I have problems with her possibly being the First Lady based on her views? I do-but that said, I think it sets a really, really bad precedent, and given that Mrs. McCain does not seem really keen on disclosing her finances-something the Democrats will surely use as ammo against her. I think it's really poor form, to say the least. There are more than a few things that the Junior Senator from Illinois can be called out on-leave the Missus alone.
