Have a good trip, you and the team.

I'm on BT broadband and it can be a bit slow. It's ok for most stuff, but for streaming high resolution video, forget it.

If broadband is going to become the new way to access TV etc, I don't think there's any real alternative to fibre.

Digital Britain - are we there yet? 11:15am on 22 May 2008 Can you try and get some figures on how much installing fibre would cost, and how much it would work out to per broadband customer. Are we talking reasonable charges or are we talking silly money? Also, even after the fibre is installed, someone's going to have to pay to maintain it, so I don't quite see how the customer is going to avoid being charged forever.
Interesting Stuff 2008-05-21 11:02am on 22 May 2008 Very interesting to hear how many people are time shifting their programmes. I watch most of my favourite programmes this way, and it looks like a lot of other people do aswell. Wonder how long the advertisers will be willing to pay high charges for showing ads that the majority of people fast forward through? I've heard claims that the ads are still effective since we concentrate on the screen so much when doing this, but personally I think this is just advertising hype (so as not to lose business).
Who is to blame for teenage anti-social behaviour? 2:39pm on 06 May 2008 OK, I'll be the first to stick my head over the parapet. Point one, kids are no different now than they've ever been; human nature doesn't change in a couple of generations. When I was a kid in the late-50s early-60s there were certain differences to now: If you gave grief to an adult you generally knew your parents would take the adults side and you'd be in trouble, if you hung around making a general nuisance of yourself you knew the police would move you on (no human rights, no paper work), also certain behaviour (intimidating old people, for example) was regarded as beyond the pail (by "good" and "bad" alike). So, it's not all parents, not all society, not all police, it's a combination of all three.
Turn on, log on, join in 1:09pm on 30 Apr 2008 Yes, we live in exciting times, technology wise. The time of the "communications revoluton", perhaps. The time when the internet joins tv as part of average joe public's everyday life (and maybe some totally unforeseen outcomes - things always move faster and are much more significant than most of us ever imagine).

Back to planet earth and the local elections, aswell as keeping us informed (with results, graphs, etc.) and listening to our views, how about some online opinion polls aswell.
Ash Cash 3:37pm on 19 Apr 2008 Just another example of a whacking great fee the goverment charges for diddly-squat. OK, I know it's paid to the doctors, but I thought we had a National Health Service paid for out of National Insurance. Other examples: the enormous fee you're now charged for a passport, the high cost of putting a will through probate, the enormous fee (Stamp Duty) you're charged just for having the cheek to buy a house. It goes on and on. What happened to "paying according to your means" or "paying a fee in proportion to the cost involved". Seems if you're a bank you're dragged into a select committee and asked to explain yourself, if you're the government you can charge what the hell you like.
May the force be with you 3:37pm on 18 Apr 2008 I think some us oldies, with slightly dodgy joints and twitchy, easily-tired muscles may struggle to become totally proficient with a device such as this. There's something very straight forward about individual keys/buttons; you only have to press them, there's no great skill or subtlety involved. On the other hand, it's hard to know these things without getting your hands on a device, and when you do all your preconceptions can be quickly shattered. So, for now, I'll just say it's a very interesting idea and I can't wait to get my hands on the finished product.
Google - about to overtake ITV 2:52pm on 18 Apr 2008 One FINAL thought. If the growth in internet advertising is a threat to anyone, it's to the printing firms and the Royal Mail who currently produce and deliver direct marketing ("junk") mail. Internet advertising is just an online equivalent of that.
Google - about to overtake ITV 2:26pm on 18 Apr 2008 Despite the internet, there will always be a place for advertising on television stations. I don't believe it is particularly affected by the growth of internet advertising (only to a minor degree) and is still the most effective form of advertising. So there's no need to panic.

As for the amazing rapid growth of internet advertising; it had to come. As for those people who say it has no effect, one word, wrong! People may not go out and buy a product straight away because of an internet advertisement, but the advertisers will have got their message across, none the less.

As for Phorm. What a frightening thought, that all your web browsing can be logged and used to better target you for advertising; but will it stop there? I very much doubt it. I only hope our politicians have the imagination to see further than the simple advertising argument and put a stop to this anti-privacy idea before it's started. Though my gut feeling is that they'll bend to the massive business lobby (and I bet the secret services would just love to get their hands on some of the data).
