Capello at home in hostile Zagreb 11:39am on 10 Sep 2008 Sorry but I find this whinging about the stadium and 'hostile' home fans ridiculous. Same as any other club or game: the team plays well, the fans cheer. Fans will be patient if they have had their good days. Too few good days for England in recent times, too much mediocrity.

This is not to speak in defence of nasty types who vent their dysfyunction on the team and or manager, mind you. Football fans are not strong on balance.

However, I dimly remember not long ago Wembley being lauded as some kind of 'perfect stage' for our national team to be roused to new heights. What happened?

This is not a good sign in 'iron man' Capello. He has quickly learned the British excuse culture.

As a Hull City fan, we can say we found Wembley strangely uplifting...

Agree with corrections posted above - seeing Waggy put goals either side of Gordon Banks in front of 43,000...mind that traffic.

I'll be demanding a public apology from Lawrenson to whom we were invisible for most of last season and right up to the end he was 'sure' it would be Watford and Palace. I expect him to smugly forecast doom and gloom...

Whatever happens this season, we have earned it in more ways than one.
