The Palin pregnancy 02:09am on 02 Sep 2008 As an Obama supporter, I have to say that some of the replies to Justin's post are naive and/or show a partisan attitude which makes assumptions regardless of objective fact.

This is not great news for us Democrats, no matter how eagerly some people are jumping on it. It makes Palin look like she deals with issues lots of everyday American's do. As Justin says, she is doing the right thing by socially conservative standards by not having an abortion.

The McCain camp released this deliberately to stem smears from Obama supporters about Palin's youngest child being her eldest daughters.

So - Palin looks in touch with everyday American's, maintains her appeal to social conservatives, and makes Obama's supporters look like they are launching a smear campaign against her... Hmm yes, great news! That's why Barack has said lay off it, he is clever enough to know that playing this up too much will be counter-productive.

I totally disagreed with your 'convention all about her piece'. Obama was being clever and making sure her supporters would be appeased. He has plenty of time in the spotlight. He knows it. So why risk arrogance when you can try and get 18 million more votes?

Hillary is a great politician. I think her speech last night was fantastic. Glowing for Obama, but still solid Clinton. She is who she is. If she had come out with too much 'I love Barack, he is my hero, let's all love him', she would have been accused of being disingenuous. This way she looks like a true supporter, and to be honest, I thought everything she said last night was true, and that she believed it.

It's a shame the same old partisan, belligerent Hillary haters jump on this blag as a chance to have a go at her. She is gracious in defeat. She is helping Obama as much as she can. So why not give her a break hey? Having a constant go just makes the Democrats look divided, and also, what reason is there left to be having a go? You afre not helping Obama by having a go, you just look like bad winners. Why not have some grace like Barack does?

If Obama loses, the nomination is Hillary's in 2012. To be honest, I don't think he will lose, and I dfon't think she expects him to.
Biden a necessary antidote 1:17pm on 23 Aug 2008 A poor choice, for the first time I genuinely think Obama could lose. I would have quite liked Clinton, but would have preferred Bayh.

Biden comes with the same 'big problem' as Clinton, he is part of the Washington Obama has been telling everyone he wants to change so much.

Biden will not swing the Reagan Democrats to Obama. He will not appease the disillusioned Clinton voters. He might make Obama look mildly better on foreign policy, but not enough to topple John McCain's solid lead in this area.

Is this campaign running out of steam, is the thinking drying up. Where is the inspiration ad bravery that won all those primaries!
Am I too giddy? 11:47am on 22 Aug 2008 I refrained from commenting a few days ago when Justin wrote about a heavily Clinton focused convention. Mainly because of the petty comments like 'she is crazy', that were being made. What rubbish. Obama is a clever man and he knows how important it is that Hillary's supporters are appeased. He has months, maybe years, to be the sole focus. Why not let Hillary have the spotlight at the convention. That way he gets to look calm, NOT arrogant, supportive and graceful in victory. It makes me like him even more.

However, I notice David Cunard mentions the relevance of the day. Why announce early unlike your predecessors? Well how about if you are announcing early because there will be nobody else to accept the nomination once you do? I'll be explicit here, Hillary only suspended her campaign, so technically is not history until he accepts the nomination. Maybe it could be a dream ticket after all... All conjecture, but what fun the wit is.

I'm sure he quite likes the idea of Hillary's full 18 million votes.

Totally right. Why are we fielding a team with James, Lampard, Beckham. This is no different to Mclaren! I thought this would be an ideal time to give experience to Bentley, wright-phillips, Agbonglahor, Richards, Lescott, etc... The FUTURE. Instead we will watch slow motion Beckham lumber about the pitch doing the occasional OK cross. Lampard and Gerrard getting in each others way. All topped off by Emile Heskey coming on to fall over a few times. I despair. I really, really do!
Unpredictable politics 3:02pm on 12 Jun 2008 Sorry Nick, you are wrong on this. To me it looks like Davis is making a stand on an issue he feels most strongly about. He is attacking Brown and only Brown over his consistent erosion of our civil liberties.

Cameron can just stand there and say 'Davis is his own man, this is something he felt he had to do'. It does not make him look weak, it makes him look like a man who empathises with Davis' campaign. While Brown looks like an authoritarian.

Davis will win, he will rejoin the shadow cabinet, Brown loses a third by-election on the trot. Where was your comment on the possible consequences for the PM?
Why Clinton lost 11:54am on 08 Jun 2008 I'm really glad Obama is the Democrat's candidate and hope he wins. I hope he can deliver change and unite America, if not, it may lead to people being even more sceptical and apathetic in the future (similar to Tony Blair's legacy in the UK). Personally, with HRC on board, I think Obama can be a great President.

It's sad that the long term belligerent supporters of Senator Obama continue their nasty attacks on HRC on this blog. I think you have missed the point about the change message, and have retreated into old politics. The point is to unite and move forward together. All you need to do is read Clinton's speach, then read Obama's, to see that both these people are major assets to the Democrats, who despite a hard campaign share a mutual respect and want to work together.

So forget about the pant-suit jibes and talking about 'zombies', actually do what Obama is suggesting and unite the Democrats! Some of the comments on here fit a school yard better than they do political debate.

Well done Obama and well done Clinton. Two excellent campaigners who genuinely want to look beyond binary divisions.
Close, but how close? 8:47pm on 03 Jun 2008 Let's be honest here, Obama is going to be the nominee. He, knows it, we know it, Hillary knows it. What Hillary is waiting for is what she should be waiting for - the point she can no longer win it. To say she should concede before that, is like saying Manchester United should have walked off the pitch when John Terry walked up to take that penalty in the Champions League final. She will wait until the superdelegates close the deal and she will concede gracefully. I am confident of this, she knows this is the only thing she can do.

I am a fan of both Obama and Clinton and still hope for a dream team, as I think it is a sure winner. As much as everyone plays up the bad feeling between them, I have to say that I think the supporters of both candidates have accentuated this problem.

Let's leave the petty attacks on Hillary and Barrack behind and actually embrace this idea of change. To rant about 'change' and then belligerently denounce Hillary is not right. I've read several posts on here recently that are just ridiculous.

Also, Barrack will know that he needs Hillary's help, especially in places like Florida.
