Sheikh ya money! 11:18am on 16 Jan 2009 From a purely economical point of view - The Sheikh paying Kaka £500k a week to play football in the UK is absolutely brilliant news.

The way I look at it is that income tax/N.I. on a salary of £25m per year is about £11m, not to mention VAT and all the other taxes that you pay for breathing in this country, all of which is paid for by a non-UK-national Sheikh... let them pay the big UK tax rates and let them boost our economy.

Kaka / Sheikh welcome to the UK. We'll have half of that money thank you very much!

In such an extraordinary Olympic year of success I'd rather see Hoy, Adlington & Ainslie recognised for their success than Hamilton. Not that I don't like the chap but I just don't think his achievements quite compare to 3 above.

Bolt over phelps purely because of how explosively brilliant he was. That 100m was simply outrageous and I thought it would be a couple more decades before anyone touched that 200m record - phenominal.

Faldo was the wrong choice as captain, and I'm not criticising his wildcard picks - they were brave and could possibly work, although I would have gone with Clarke rather than Poulter.

What I think is wrong is that he undermined his position of authority by making silly remarks about respected players like Monty "he's probably off shopping somewhere..."

What a highly immature thing to say - it shows his inability to manage players correctly. People played for Woosie and Langer because they had respect for them as decent men.

I fear that a lack of team spirit could unsettle individuals - especially if the going gets tough.

Wood's missing will probably have a positive impact on the rest of the US team, who will feel rightly more responsibility.

Archery concerns need addressing 4:27pm on 04 Sep 2008 Although a part of me sympathises with Alan on the frustration he feels with the current setup especially if he is not getting the support or encouragement to fulfil his ability, I can't help but think there must be a more productive way to bring criticism about your head-coach than to post it from behind a computer screen on a BBC Blog.

Alan, perhaps taking the issue up with Peter himself may have been a better idea?
With regards to the level of your own performance at the games, the fault surely does not and cannot lie squarly on Peter's shoulders alone?!?

Especially seeing as by your own admission you haven't spoken to him since the Olympics, it might be an idea to speak directly to him rather than going to the public behind his back. It makes you look rather unprofessional.

What is a typical 'hard' training week for you? 100 miles of running isn't that far short of what an olympic marathoner would put in - Let alone the fact you have to get Swim and bike in there somehow!
Legacy worry over London pool 11:01am on 17 Jul 2008 Why is it that simple minded people always feel it neccessary to 'bash Mihir's blogs'? - I suppose it makes you feel big and clever.

For what its worth I found the article very informative, thanks Mihir.

As someone who has lived in London for the majority of my life, most Londoners will want sustained benefit from the huge investment into the games, most of which is coming from their Council Tax contributions I might add.

Where sustainable benefit is not being achieved, it is very worrying. Especially when we have an opportunity to create facilities that will serve the public and professional athletes for many years to come.

I imagine the Olympics will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the UK - lets get it right!!!
