Trusting social workers 06:06am on 07 May 2009 Here in the USA I have to say that "Social Worker" is an oxymoron. When I filed an authentic and serious complaint about child abuse against my daughter's father, my ex-husband, the "social worker" assigned to the case was supposed to perform an random unannounced visit to see the actual situation - instead, she scheduled an APPOINTMENT - with a child molester. TYPICAL. Social Workers are too full of themselves - too into "playing God." They harm far more children than they help - not only my child, but SO MANY OTHERS.
The Obama-Catholic row continues 04:21am on 24 Apr 2009 ALL the Catholic people I know voted for Obama. Most are "liberal" or slightly "lapsed" Catholics - many have been permanently jaded and/or appalled by the Catholic Church hierarchy's obfuscations re: sexual abuse. I don't think it's accurate to talk about OBAMA being at 'war' with the Catholic Church/hierarchy here. It's more accurate to say that conservative anti-choice Catholics here may be agitating against Obama's progressive policies on abortion rights and on stem-cell research.

But then the Catholic Church hierarchy has a long history of taking up the sword against other who do not adhere to their "party line" e.g. the Inquisition, the Crusades, etc., etc. This is why a lot of us with Catholicism in our not-too-distant family tree are either "lapsed" or "retired" or "former" or non- Catholics. Our Karma has run over the Church's Dogma, as that clever bumper-sticker says....

Obama's extravagant claims 05:27am on 27 Feb 2009 It is certainly a grotesque feature of the national USA psyche to feel obligated to repeat endlessly the mantra that the USA is "the greatest nation on earth." There are many regional variations on this e.g. the nightly intro to interview-host David Letterman's "Late Show" which begins "And now from New York, the greatest city in the world..." All in all these kinds of statements are symptomatic of xenophobia and monumental ignorance.

I am a native USA citizen aged 61, female, and it's clear to me that only morons need to feel that their country is the "greatest nation in the world" - same viz their town. Every nation has evil and good; every country has important differences due to environment and history.

Perhaps the 'bragging rights' syndrome is just one of the more obvious symptoms of a very young country with a LOT to learn.
Obama in enemy territory 06:23am on 01 Nov 2008 My son lives in Phoenix & up until recently was in the unenviable position of voting for Obama without that vote counting for anything in the end. Now my son has the chance to help turn the tide away from McCain. Obama's projected weekend trip to Arizona - "arrogance" you say? I say EXCELLENT - that trip is the result of many many hours of hard work and sacrifice on the part of us Obama supporters - and, is a real encouragement to the Obama voters in that now "light-pink" state. YES WE CAN.
Bad losers and bad finishers 05:50am on 01 Nov 2008 #52: I agree - McCain's 'skill' at crashing planes explains why his campaign is a "plane wreck" rather than merely a "train wreck." His own self-stated personal stories about his captivity in the "Hanoi Hilton" [after crashing yet another plane] are just that: HIS OWN STORIES. Other than name-calling toward his opponent, McCain's relied upon re/painting himself as a war hero over & over again - and more recently relied upon painting failures like tax-delinquent non-licensed "Joe the Plumber" as generic heroes. On the other hand, Obama's lifetime achievements were his own - demonstrably so.
Uninsured 04:10am on 23 Oct 2008 To the arrogant self-righteous jerks who are castigating USA citizens who have zero health insurance coverage: wouldn't it be HILARIOUS if you, like me, through no fault of your own became the victim of a violent crime - and then lost your health coverage just when you were starting to get better? HAHAHA - "BLEEP OFF" Watch out - you're begging for something really bad in the way of life challenges to come along and to wipe that smug look off your faces, just for starters.

Courageous people decades ago fought and died for benefits you jerks are happy to see others lose but that you take for granted for yourselves.

Pain is an amazing teacher. Who knows what you all could learn. Meanwhile, I know how ignorant you truly are.
Uninsured 02:08am on 23 Oct 2008 I also have no health coverage - mine stopped in July of 2007. I am a 61-yr old female; I have chronic and quite painful fibromyalgia as well as other related conditions and some old injuries that all combine to make daily-life quite uncomfortable. Prior to losing my coverage, thanks to past efforts of a progressive and feisty Internist, I had forced my state-funding-assisteid HMO to provide me with a coordinated regimen of electro-stim acupuncture plus specialist-provided Shaitsu massage. When I began that regimen I expected little or no effective relief; I was amazed at the flexibility and pain-lessening I received. Since that stopped I tough things out; I have "bad days" at least 3 days/week even with doing exercise, being at my ideal weight with a highly-healthy diet, and practicing yoga and relaxation. I spent my whole working life caring for an advocating for others, including in healthcare delivery. I have dear friends whose situations are infinitely worse than mine. THIS IS A DISGRACE.
'A wonderful man' 07:42am on 22 Oct 2008 The photos of Bristol Palin, Levi Johnston her 'fiance' and little Trig "Sarah & Todd's son" Palin at the RNC are very telling. The photo in which Bristol is holding a sleeping Trig to her breast in the most maternal way, with Levi bending over to kiss the sleeping baby, has convinced me without the shadow of a doubt that Trig is Bristol's & Levi's baby. I don't give a "hoot" [sic] about gossip writers; but I am appalled that Sarah Palin is using her grandchild as a political football metaphorically speaking. Trig is a "special needs child" prop for Palin - but it's clear who really adores and is bonded to Trig: Bristol. Both teenage mom Bristol and her special needs boy are being exploited in the most disgusting way - harmful and heartless exploitation by "Granny Dearest" Sarah Palin. What a contrast to the caring and loving, respectful way that Barack & Michelle Obama protect their girls' privacy and stable home life with an authentic Grandma relationship from Michelle Obama's wonderful mother.
'A wonderful man' 06:53am on 22 Oct 2008 Watch out if the Repubs snafu this election - the conflagrations e.g. Watts could look like a backyard barbeque in comparison.

This election so many DIFFERENT folks - particularly young ones - have committed themselves heart & soul - have sacrificed tremendously financially - and worked like mules for Obama.

That kind of commitment and devotion could be turned into gigantic rage if this election is stolen a la 2000.
