Premier League quartet will advance 3:00pm on 29 Aug 2008 I was amazed at the awards too. I can understand Cech being best keeper, he made some fantastic saves throughout the competition and thoroughly deserved the award. Terry getting best defender? Now that I disagree with, Van Der Sar never had a chance to get the best keeper award with Rio and Vidic infront of him. Rio should have got it for sure in my eyes. And no way should Lampard have got best midfielder. Ronaldo obviously the best forward without a doubt, you can argue Messi all day but Ronaldo was a key component in the winning team and also top scorer of the competition so it just has to be.

As for the draw, Utd and Chelsea will make it through without breaking a sweat, it's going to be easy for both of them I think. Liverpool ought to make it through because obviously they seem to be a much better team in Europe than the league. Arsenal are the biggest doubt for me, a lot of people are wondering how they will get on this season and they're showing early warning signs already, such as the 1-0 defeat to Fulham. If they can play as well as they did last year they can make it through, but with 2 of their key midfielders gone I'm not so sure that they can.

So I'd say Utd and Chelsea dead certainties to be through the group stages, pretty much positive they will both be top of their groups also. Liverpool I expect to make it through but not dead certainties, and I have a wait and see attitude towards Arsenal, if they lose their first few games I could see them collapsing completely and not qualifying for knock out stages.
Transfer window not working in the Football League? 9:59pm on 27 Aug 2008 Well Johnson certainly can't turn his phone off yet, we're losing a defender a game down here. We managed to nab some guy from Rangers who's played 2 games in about as many years but the way it's looking at the moment there isn't enough defenders in the world, let alone the transfer market to get us through until January.
Can Birmingham, Reading and Derby bounce back? 11:26am on 07 Aug 2008 Of course I have to be careful of that, the general consensus of city fans is that anything in the top half of the table is fine, but being an eternal optimist I just can't settle for anything worse than how we did last year. Also with Maynard we will hopefully get some of the goals that cost us automatic promotion last year (like in the 2-1 loss to Stoke right towards the end of the season). That said I strongly believe we're a team destined for the premier league, whether it be this year or next year I don't care as long as I'm around to see it!
Can Birmingham, Reading and Derby bounce back? 11:09am on 07 Aug 2008 I think Birmingham have the best shout of the three. They've got a good squad, plenty of good players to take them right back up. Reading have lost Kitson for a start, and he is a key player for them, and it looks like Shorey is on his way out so another key player gone. Possibly Harper too, also the manner of which they got relegated, also Birmingham, anyone remember when nobody would bet against Bolton, Fulham and Derby being the teams going down? Then as much as Bolton and Fulham played well Birmingham and Reading managed to gloriously fail.

As for Derby, I think it all depends on the 2nd half of the season, their team needs time to gel and play together in a competetive season and my main concern for them is that by the time they have gelled together, memories of last seasons horrific run will be fresh back in their minds, and they could fall into the losing mindset they had last season. But if they can hit the ground running and get a few results under their belt they are in with as much of a shout as anyone else.

Nice to see a lot of support for Bristol City on here, refreshing from all the "you're going down this year" comments on the 606 from all the jealous Cardiff fans and gasheads.. I think we will be pushing for promotion this season, if we can beat Blackpool away. Then we've got Derby at a great time because they are looking at wholesale changes in their squad whereas we have pretty much the same first team we put out last year, and we proved then that we are a force to be reckoned with.
Open sores 8:08pm on 21 Jul 2008 Fergie has only spoke about an unnamed player... It's obviously Berbatov but wouldn't it be classic if it turned out to be somebody completely different?
