Totally agree with you, you dont think all I drive is just an EV ;-), its horses for courses, I do know a few folks who ONLY have an EV and then hire a car for longer runs.
It is an ideal 2nd car, the problem is folks only see things like the G-Wizz and then think thats how all EV's are :-(
I know loads of folk who only ever use their petrol car for local running and say an EV would be no use to them because three times a year they need to go to outer-mongolia LOL and they are a two car family, if thats the case use the petrol motor for the outer-mongolia trip and use the EV for all the local runs, watch the money stack up in your back pocket for beer ;-)

As you say for me its great, I'll admit its not for everyone, but lots of people wont even give them a try because of whats flung down our throats by the media etc which gives totally the wrong impression of the humble EV :-(

I checked my wifes company car trip meter this morning and her average speed since it was last re-set (about a week ago) was a mere 26mph !!!!

Your missing the point, the problem is there arent 10 decent electric cars on the market, I know that, you know that, and thats the problem. If there was 10 decent EV's available to day then the EV's would out sell the Lada's thats for sure, more so if folks could see more cash in their back pocket.
Certainly is not a vehicle for everyone I will openly admit that, but for those daft little trips, that everyone including myself do, to the DIY shop, get the paper, round to a mates house etc etc then why not save a few pennies and go in the electric, that way you've got more to spend on........ beer in the evening, which is what I'm going to do right now :-)

Guest: Michael McIntyre 8:42pm on 27 Nov 2009 hokeykokeyalex :- I drive at regular speeds with regular traffic, folks dont even realise that its electric, as before EV's get a bad press with slow odd looking vehicles in the lime light, they arnt all like this ;-)

sky_viewer :- There are hundreds of production vehicles that equally DONT do 0-60 in single figures, nor do 130mph !!! if you have a trip counter in your current vehicle take a look at your average speed reading on it, bet you'll be surprised, I very much doubt it gets above 35-40mph ;-)

For me its nothing to do with the green thing, sorry greenies LOL for me its all about saving money, and with free road tax and £1.20 odd to do 60miles I'm larfing all the way to the bank LOL, hating having to put £40 in the wifes car as thats worth over 1500 miles for the EV :-)

Electricity is transmitted far more efficently than a tanker traveling x number of miles to the filling station ;-)
Hang on 90% of the time at slow speed ??? so your normal petrol powered car driving around town goes faster ?? surely your breaking the speed limit LOL
See this is the whole problem, they put something like the G-wizz on the telly which IS slow and EVERYONEn then thinks all EV's are like milk floats (cry) today I was on the motorway in my EV doing 60mph along with all the other cars/vans/lorries.
Do remember not all EV's are like the G-wizz, its just they get the most media attention ;-)

In reply to astroplums :- My EV is a regular Berlingo van, no more a death trap than a petrol powered Berlingo ;-)

In reply to hokeykokeyalex :- while I agree at slow speed the driver needs to pay more attention to pedestrians etc but above 20mph the tyre noise is the same as any regular powered vehicle and thus everyone hears you coming. Todays modern combustion engines have to be so quiet anyway by "legislation" that you can hardly hear something like modern BMW at slow speed either ;-)

What did you think of The One Show? Guest: Michael McIntyre 7:42pm on 27 Nov 2009 Once again the poor old Electric Vehicle gets a bashing, I've been driving EV's for around 15yrs now, have owned three in total and ALL where able to go over 55mph, and certainly not slow, EV's are not new.
My current EV can do 65mph and travel upto 60miles on a charge and costs just £1.25 to fill up with electric. Last year I did around 3500 local miles which cost me well under £100 in electric, even a diesel doing 60mpg it would have cost me over £250 in diesel, its a no brainer.

I watched the QE2 sail out from that site and being on the southcoast was able to know the exact time to pop down to the beach to see her sail past.

Is Digital forcing you to abandon your TV? 7:21pm on 14 Oct 2008 Stop scare mungering Beeb , you should know better than this.
Just had to calm my mother and father in-law down after a worried phone call from them thinking they had to go and spend their small pension on a new Digital TV .........when thats just NOT the case.....tut tut tut 1/10 for this article.
Does The One Show need a studio audience? 7:36pm on 07 Oct 2008 Add an audience and I'll turn it off, sorry but PLEASE dont go down the US route of manik laughter and a screaming audience, we are so much more above all that tripe and in my view will totally ruin the show.
Do it at your peril, if you do I for one will watch something else.
