RBS board to quit if chancellor vetoes £1.5bn in bonuses 4:27pm on 02 Dec 2009 Definately a win win situation.
There is no way they can justify paying bonuses. The job market for such people is so delicate that many won't leave. And it's not like their standard salaries are that low anyway! They're not on minimum wage are they.
If the board quits then they can bring in a new one, controlled from the start, a board that is not paid millions, does not have exceptionally massive pensions and does what they are told. RBS lost all rights to having a say the day they had to go bowl in hand to the government.
Facebook v Ceop 12:01pm on 19 Nov 2009 This is just more rubbish from people who obviously don't actually use the sites themselves. Everything is lockdownable or reportable in the normal senses.
If you don't wnt to be seen or don't want to be sent emails from people you don't know you can set things up that way. If you do get dodgy emails or messages then you can report people. If someone is hassling you on a group then you can report them. If someone started up a group saying things about you you can report them and it will be taken down.

Where is the need for a stupid button that only takes you to another website anyway?
BNP's 'hang generals' just 'humour' 9:05pm on 20 Oct 2009 If someone had said it about the politicians it would have been seen as a valid point. In fact I heard many people from normal media and political saying just that several times in the past, especially about Tony Blair.

Terrible when a valid point gets ignored due to an idiot being the one who said it.

The strategic significance of Salmond's speech 9:21pm on 17 Oct 2009 I'm sorry but his talk about being in a position of power is utter rubbish.
Not the idea that they should strive for power or represent the Scottish people well, but the idea that they would actually be in a position to do anything.

In the last election SNP got 6 seats, the Liberal Democrats got 62! Which party is more likely to have an impact?
Salmond himself admitted that he's only expecting maybe 10 more seats (obviously from Labour), well 16 seats still isn't much is it.
When there is a minority government (as is likely) there will be many power battles, but I can't see the SNP having much to do with anything. And that's assuming an increase in SNP mp's!

The problem is always that the media but many politicians forget that when it comes to elections a lot of people don't vote for a party, they vote for a candidate. That is how we still have a Labour government with a majority. You can have a local MP who is great but happens to be with the wrong party (whatever that might be).
Digital music - who's making money? 1:29pm on 09 Oct 2009 You have to admit that the expectation that we would pay for things is rather a ridiculous one. After all in many cases we have a large amount of material that is available that we have already paid for.

Everything the BBC produces is paid for by the license fee, it's available on iplayer so whats the problem with time shifting it by bittorrenting the latest episode of Eastenders. Theres no diference between doing that and watching it on BBC3 or on the ipplayer.
Anything on Sky/Virgin, you've paid your cable tv bill so whats the difference between watching House on Sky One and downloading it?
Every commerical tv channel that is supported by advertising spending. We have all watched the adverts and will soon be exposed to in show branding, so we've already paid for the programmes they show as well.

On the radio, BBC or commercial. We've been given the music (for the license fee or via the advertising) effectivly free for decades, why should we be expected to pay even more?

We have already paid for these things, having copies on our pc's/iphones from Bittorrent is no different than videoing/pvring a show off the tv or recording the top 30 onto audio tape which hasn't destroyed the music or tv industry so far.

If you think that way then you can see why some people are wondering why on earth companies are expecting us to pay them again.
Apple's 'Big Brother' sequel 5:49pm on 02 Oct 2009 2 and a half months of work? Blimey. Someone at sixth form could do better in a week I'm sure. It's a really weak video that is certainly not up to any professional production levels. It's get laughed out of any serious forum. Also interesting how commenting on that YouTube video has been disabled. Doesn't like the idea of criticism when it applied to them hey?

I can see why they don't like the idea of what is wrong with Apple etc but it's their own company, they can decide what is and isn't allowed on the App Store for instance. Noone said that you are entitled to have everything on your chosen platform. If he's so annoyed then he can start up his own system and spend the time and money on it and built it up over several years.
Hopefully they'll get what's coming to them.
Not so special? 5:12pm on 24 Sep 2009 This misses a basic point. Most of the work between countries is done by civil servants. It's done by those under Cabinet members. They deal with the actual content of what is done between countries. The meetings between the big names only need to be fairly irregular and really I would have though can be easily sorted out via email if not simply left to those under the President and Prime Minister. They set the tone and the people who actually work in the fields just get on with it.

I've always thought it particularly odd anyway, someone like the US President has their life arranged massively in advance, it's not like they can just pop off for a week (look what happened when they do step away!) on a whim. Even on holiday they'd be working hard or be at least contactable, that is one of the costs of rising to that level of power.

Anything that actually needed to be discussed between them is already being done, if anyone wanted to talk to Obama it was Brown himself. After all isn't it the Labour Party Conference soon?
Spotify - going mobile 7:56pm on 27 Jul 2009 How many people will download this for the offline ability but not be a premium subscriber and not realise this?
I've never found the 3G network good enough to continuously stream live audio in Cambridge. Even sat in one place.

It's yet another system that ignores the pay vs free element of Bittorrent/sharing with friends.
It all went bang 7:00pm on 27 Jul 2009 Funny how the advert showing the 'live' event shows it working perfectly. No man with a plank having to break the light beam.
