A glimpse of life after Freddie 09:22am on 22 Aug 2009 ... as a faulty consignment of Eastern Bloc weaponry? Mmmh Monsieur Dirs, if only it was then England would have won the ashes long time ago. Nothing wrong with Eastern Bloc weaponry, opposite. English weaponry? there you have an issue. Very good and expensive when working but sadly unreliable for some obscure reasons. Very much like the cricket team and as a matter of fact any other team sport.
Who's the greatest? 8:18pm on 06 Jul 2009 Well well, This is a difficult answer I can try to answer.
Firstly I should declare that I have terrible eye-hand coordination and therefore completely useless at both sport. So, so far Roger and Tiger are both exceptional players compare to me. What I can talk about is their smaller more accessible form:

Golf and table tennis. I've been on Britain's fun golf circuit for a while (Barry Island, Ramsgate..) and always managed to get a decent score as playing against myself did find the odd moment of concentration. So I am better at golf (extrapolating here). At table tennis I can successfully serve fairly regularly but rarely managed to return, in fact even hit the ball when it was returned to me by any opponents (in a few occasions the guy I was playing was asleep and managed to score a point).

So again by extrapolating tennis, for me, is a much more difficult sport (let alone the back ache every time I tried tennis). than golf and my admiration goes to Roger.
A greener Germany 1:22pm on 22 May 2009 PS Mark while you are there, you should have a look at:
1)the local airport. An example of co-operation between Basel, Mulhouse and Freiburg.
2) Public transport. Transfrontaler public transport is not un-heard of
3) universities the level of integration between the three regional universities is very interesting.
4) High speed train. there they couldn't agree and the developped they own network
A greener Germany 1:16pm on 22 May 2009 Referring to 3. Freiburgh is a prosperous city with a good mixture of universities, High tech, agriculture and tourism (on the slope of the Black forest). So no they are not relying on handout. Now you'll change your tack and accused them of being wealthy people who can afford it.

Anyway Freiburg always has been a nice, albeit small city. The location in the Rhine valley exposed it to loads of conflict (and not just the two WW). Since mediaeval time the region witnessed trade, industrialisation (see density of chemical plants around Basel and along the Rhine), nuclear development and so on. They are at the hearth of Europe and suffered Chernobyl, Sandoz (chemical) and a plethora of others pollution of over industrialisation. One of Europe biggest aquifer had been damaged by pesticide and salt from local mining. Freiburg saw the future first hand and they didn't like it so they turn green. The greens are also popular across the Rhine in Alsace and upstream in Basel.
Can the model be scaled up? Hopefully, but it wont be easy
Bad taste Haye creates a buzz 8:57pm on 20 Apr 2009 Martial art, rugby, water polo are violent too. What they have in common is that the violence stays on the field and isn't brought out in the gutter. Ali or Tyson were slagging their opponent not wearing a tasteless tee-shirt. you might be educated enough to see the comic / provocation element of it. The red top will love David as they will be able to indulge into Eastern European bashing in the name or news reporting but one should be careful of letting out such a message. Maybe David should tour Europe to promote visit Britain with his T-shirt. As David said it. this isn't boxing, it's advertising...bad and sad advertising. Is boxing so low it has to resort to such extreme? What next? I let your imagination finish the sentence.
Bad taste Haye creates a buzz 6:56pm on 20 Apr 2009 Sad, sad very sad. we bemoan the violence of today's youth and there come this guy inciting the very violence we try to stamp out. All in the name of publicity. sad I thought he wanted to be a role model...He ill backtrack and said it was all in the spirit of fun but I don't buy it.I for once will support the Ukrainian and won't pay to watch the game. Mind you if Ben does the blog it'll be fine
WTA loses an advocate, but regains an attraction 10:10am on 28 Mar 2009 Good article but one has to admit that a merger wouldn't work. ATP tour generates much more income than the WTA and would therefore always have the upper hand in price and scheduling. I can see the WTA being bossed around / bullied / dismissed. It wouldn't last long.
A joint venture seems a better option. I would personally had liked the title master kept and be joined tournaments, not WTA' one week after the ATP'. After that there are so any concurrent tournament it doesn't really mater.
Prices or joint events should also be equal.
