How is that money to be utilised to improve the situation?; other than introducing even yet more 'hold ups' and hurdles for people to go through and create another time consuming expensive 'screening/interrogation' process. Is there really much point.

It sounds to me you just resented them getting ahead of you.

As you stated this probably happens in the minority of cases. On face value people make wrong judgements all the time about what people's needs and intentions are especially when they are not obvious. Just because yours might be physically displayed not everybody's is and why should it always be the case? It does not make you more 'genuine' or 'entitled'.

There are people who have mental health conditions amongst other conditions who experience fluctuating states of capacity in regards to energy levels and feeling disorientated or feeling actual physical pain. As long as you get on why would you care? Why should they continuously have to justify their conditions because they appear 'suspicious' to you.

The plane takes off at the same time for all. Everybody else who has to pay the same air fare has to queue up and wait a long time, In comparison, your waiting is minimal. No matter where they are you will still have to wait for all flight passengers to board.

There are times when people require assistance and other times when they don't, it is not always easy to predict.

You have a habit of implying that disabled people receive 'privilages' somewhat like a 'celebrity' or 'dignitary' who may be quite capable of opening their own car doors, carrying their own luggage, brush their hair etc but would prefer to pay another person to do it for them as a display of their importance. It is not comparable to people who actually cannot funtion without these things. These are not 'privilages' but are nessesities, something quite different. Disabled people on the whole are seldom regarded as celebrities or dignataries when the same actions are performed by someone else for them. They are perceived as a financial burden.
Disability Bitch hates MPs 2:43pm on 15 May 2009 I do the gardening outside my council flat and even occasionally plant flowers (bought out of my 'benefits'), if I didn't do it no one else would, I choose my time according to my ability to function in relation to that job, and the needs of the garden. Both myself and my 78 year old mother care for one another neither of us claim carers alllowance. I don't get a 'legitimate decent taxable wage'. One could even argue I do it purely out of 'charitable kindness' giving my skills freely to the community. Over the last couple of years the garden looks better and it cheers me up as it does others on the estate. Is my 'community service' more acceptable to them If I was doing gardening in a bright orange suit or calcualting the costs of my time? I'm not damaging the environment or harming anybody or less disabled as I still face discrimination and insult, though I look for more suitable ways for myself to cope.

Gardening for many is therapeutic and if people are doing things on benefit that offers a better environment out of their own initiative then how can you criticise that particularly when I'm being denied a 'proper wage'. The accomodation where I live is not suited to my specific requirements and is therefore often uncomfortable, though through lack of finance I am forced to live there. I don't own the place though have to maintain it's cleanliness and report repairs a bit of a 'service' in itself, that can exhaust me. Most people who could afford property would not choose to live where I live.

When I spend the money that I get I spend it wisely and to improve my health and if that means enjoying myself as much as I can when possible why shouldn't I? Would people prefer to pay for me to stay in a permanent state of depression or pretend to be at times when I'm not to ensure the times when I am are covered for?

Any money that I spend goes back into the someone else's pocket anyway so that they can feed themselves. Spend Spend Spend isn't that what they tell us will get us out of depression, sales in Prozac are on the rise I imagine.

Disability Bitch vs insults 5:19pm on 28 Mar 2009 I'm in agreement with you in regards to the 'special' olympics. I'm all for integrated activities but why do they have to be turned into a 'national compeition'? Did he only apologise to 'American' 'special' olympians?
What about all so called 'special' people outside of America equally insulted. An 'alien' species of lesser regard due to our nationality we surely can not be? Cohesion under the 'national' flag of all abilities is so obviously far greater?... Yeah right. "You go get 'em tigers for the glory of the 'nation' (we hold you in such high regard).

When did disability become separated by 'national' borders? Naturally it is not, It exists only in the minds of those with misguided 'patriotic' intent wanting to retain their privileged positions gained as a result of once popularly held ideas and more accepted attributes pertaining to those ideas, though not necessarily by fair advantage.

As with Obama and myself colour knows no separation, he is the embodiment of indifinable colour, a mixture of what was once considered clearly DEFINED BY OTHERS as two seperates. I have a very obvious disability which allows me to connect with all disabled people on this planet unlike himself, this should and cannot be removed by a 'national' border why should it? Should colour? gender? I have as much affinity to disabled people in America of all colours, as he has as a self defined 'American'.. His thinking is a reflection of much of the inherited ignorance that exist globally in regards to disability, not entirely his fault. Comments on election day regarding Dick Cheney reflect the popular view.

We are however universally connected, limited social understanding divides us. Many disabled people say derogatory things about people they percieve as 'different' outside of disability issues they are familiar with, eg 'other disabilities', 'gender', 'colour', 'religion', 'culture' 'nationality' etc.Considering disability transcends all these things some disabled person somewhere will be insulted, unless we abandon the 'race' concept and consider ourselves as global equals mutually 'beneficial' to and not 'better than' the 'other'. Is disability interaction on this forum a competition or just a place to communicate and enlighten? What would it be like if it were?

Is it anymore justifiable for a disabled person to insult another even indirectly? We are not all born with encyclopedic understanding of one another, (don't consult an encyclopedia by the way).

Disabled women who pay for sex 11:13pm on 28 Feb 2009 It is no more unfortunate than anybody who is 'withdrawn about sexuality' teachers, parents, etc all who project their own insecurities, prejudices etc on those who they are guiding through life. Plenty of non-disabled people are also in 'unfortunate' situations, and not all disabled people are by the way. I'd say more 'sad' 'lonely' 'ugly' people or people just wanting to explore sex with a prostitute are non disabled people. The problem could be improved much more with a more posiitive portrayal of disabled people and sexual diversity in the media and advertising. There should be open and honest debate which focused on attitude supportive relationships and increased awareness, not on sexual competiton.

Presumably her boyfriends knew she was disabled to begin with but acted in a very ignorant and immature way to her situation. Not unusual regardless.

The fact that the only focus of their relationship was whether or not she could have an orgasm suggests poor communication was really at the heart of the problem. I doubt her disabilty would have made much difference it is not uncommon to be dumped and left feeling sexually undesired.

If they had not minded and she felt guilty then would she have minded retaining some form of sexual or friendly relationship with her boyfriend and let him have sex with some escort who did orgasm? It might not be such an appealing prospect when he decides that is what he needs would you continue to feel insecure?.

I'm fed up with the hackneyed idea that disabled people are all so undesirable and tragic that the only people who will have sex with us are those who are 'benevolent' prostitutes who of course don't mind doing it for pay but can't otherwise. 'It'll just cost the tax payer a little extra so dig deep now
Plenty of non disabled people use prostitutes for all sorts of reasons should it also be included in their care packages. Find some other mug to make your money off of and don't insult disabled people and reinforce stereotypes. Maybe the disabled 'clients' might want to work for their 'care package' and become prostitutes themselves then they could fulfill their sexual desires whenever someone else decides they want to have sex.
