Man City will regret lack of ambition 10:58am on 22 Nov 2009 Simply, I don't think Hughes is the man to get Man City into that top 4. The talent is there, the tactics are not.
Weighing up Button's McLaren move 4:27pm on 18 Nov 2009 I don't buy the gloomist predictions about Button. Those that think he's going to get wiped out across the season by Hamilton will, I think, be wrong...Hamilton himself is not immune to making mistakes, he's still learning himself.

But with this move Button will find it a lot more difficult to defend his title.
Haye does what he has to do 09:56am on 09 Nov 2009 Lennox Lewis was a first-round pick for the International Boxing Hall of Fame. 'nuff said about his quality.

As for Haye, I'm amused that he can't wear the belt yet because they're re-sizing it! I'm even more amused to see ol' Frank Warren chime in, predictable as clockwork, about how terrible this all was.

If Sky did as many PPV buys as some rumours suggest for this bout, that'd be wonderful. And a clear sign of how much interest there still is in boxing in this country.

And while it would seem a no-brainer to jump if a Klitschko big money fight came along, the whole point of this Valuev fight was to get Haye a much bigger bargaining chip in the form of that title.

So I don't think he'll be keen to drop it immediately if either Vitali or Wlad click their fingers.

And there's considerable kudos to be gleaned if he takes on Ruiz and knocks him out. Ruiz is not a popular guy amongst boxing fans so disposing on him for good would be lauded.

I've seen Valuev stunned before, despite the 'indestructible' portrayal of him in the build-up, but I've never seen him so discombobulated like that, off a single punch no less.

Thank you for a fair overview, Ben. It was a pretty dull fight but then everyone has a pretty dull fight against Valuev, a guy that big just limits yours options.

I know journalists don't like to badmouth other pros but I would just like to make my feelings known on this...Jim Watt.

Terrible job from him on Sky, just terrible. Many people will come away from that fight, even worse people that haven't seen that fight as well, thinking Valuev was robbed blind just because Watt had it stuck in his head that only a bombfest would do for Haye. Watt's dreadful performance will be a detriment to Haye's image.

I hope most people will ignore that and see that the result was right, and the history books have been written - David Haye, WBA Heavyweight Champion on November 7th 2009.

Holyfield shows Haye the way 09:30am on 02 Nov 2009 Thing is, Haye has not been a bomb-swinging wild abandon kind of fighter these days. He's been a set counter-puncher for years now. He doesn't throw many shots but instead looks for the opening before unloading. Things like the quick Maccarinelli were simply down to Enzo not being able to take his punches rather than a blizzard of shots.

And that's good news here because that's what works well against Valuev. Move, draw him out and counter. You can't underestimate the giant, something like the Liakhovich fight shows what he's capable of when you don't give him angles, but Haye can go the twelve and get the decision here.

I really hope he does, because Haye as a belt holder offers up a lot more interesting options that Valuev does. Niko seems a nice guy but he's really disappointed recently and King seems to have the WBA in his pocket in terms of keeping them away from any hopes of unification. If Haye wins, Haye-Ruiz would have to happen next but then his dance card is free...
Anfield's day of destiny 5:11pm on 23 Oct 2009 I put extremely little stock, no matter how justifiable, in claims of Man Utd being unconvincing this season. They were pretty unconvincing for large parts of last season too and it didn't prevent them from sweeping to another Premiership title. The old adage of 'winning when you're playing badly' is something that Man Utd absolutely excel at where others teams fail, barring Chelsea (thought still not consistantly there).

No, I think those kind of claims are straws being clung to by other supporters. Plain and simple, Liverpool will need to considerably up their game to get a victory here...and even if that is achieved, not then fall asleep as usual and drop points to lesser clubs shortly afterwards.

It should be a tremendous game.
Is all publicity good publicity? 11:34am on 21 Oct 2009 I would say that the worst thing any other panellist on the show could do would be to get so stoked to take the moral high ground that they work themselves into a frothingly angry state.

Shouting and screaming at Griffin to make a point, no matter how good it might be, is just going to make them look like the crazy ones.
BBC Sport's fuel-adjusted Brazilian GP grid 09:41am on 18 Oct 2009 I really hope Rubens wins and Button doesn't make up the points he needs to still clinch (or virtually clinch) the championship.

For the sake of an entertaining finale. For the sake of a quality guy like Rubens, in front of his home fans. For the sake of Button having the opportunity in Abu Dhabi to show that 'champions drive' when all the pressure is on, instead of eeking it out.
