Benitez faces biggest test 11:10am on 21 Oct 2009 There is so much knee jerk reacting going on here, both amongst reds fans and gloater fans from other sides. Here's the news:

1. The difference between the current top 6 is minimal. Look at the results Man Utd have managed to get - a freak winner against Man City in late late added on time and a late equaliser against Sunderland. Thats 4 points right there through luck. Liverpool lose 3 points / 1 point due to a goal that should never have been given at Sunderland.

2. If you look at press quotes from LFC players a few weeks ago, it is clear that winning the Prem is priority over the CL this season. Bringing Benny off to keep him fresh for Sunday is part of that.

3. Rafa is a top manager. It is not the first time he / the team / the performance has been booed at Anfield - remember the Anfield draws last season? Boos also ring out at Chelsea / Arsenal and Man Utd from time to time.

4. Rafa is in a corner regarding Carragher. No replacement and also a management challenge to drop a true Red.

5. Rafa is handling the Yanks with diplomacy. Clearly they bit off more than they could chew when buying LFC. A sell out to the Saudis is close and there will be tons of cash flooding in - oil is back to $80 plus a barrel.

6. If all else fails, Maureen Mourinho would love the job.
Spinvox, we stand by our story 9:42pm on 31 Jul 2009 Interesting story and analysis. Makes me wonder how Apple does visual voicemail on the iphone...is it a white label version of spinvox?

How have spinvox raised so much VC money? Are they in cohoots with governments to provide them with this kind of data? The connection with Pakistan is certainly interesting.

Liverpool's elusive 'Man in the Sand' 00:33am on 19 Mar 2009 To all the people who say to others "why visit this blog if all you do is criticise Mihir Bose"..the point of the comments section is to express opinion either good or bad.

Whilst not wanting to criticise Mihir personallly as i dont know him, i do wonder sometimes who he is and why he is trying, unsuccesfully, to build an image of 'the investigative sports reporter'. Similar attempts with his articles about Stanford that opened with words such as 'i can now reveal' equally went on to totally unimpress with facts we all knew.

Here's my suggestion Mihir...if you are going to 'reveal' something, why not show a scanned copy of the document with the 'man in the sand' name on or a receipt from the hotel in Lebanon. Something interesting. Some evidence. Get hold of an email or two. Record a conversation and link to it on here.

Rory this applies to all media nowadays. Especially the 24 hour rolling rumour and speculation tv news channels. Endless mistakes are made by the mainstream media channels.

In turn people are looking for the real story in realtime multimedia outlets...news by the people for the people.

All media be it new or traditional is increasingly focussing on voyeurism and the power of images combined with the added incentive to be 'breaking' news first.

Mistakes and myths will continue to happen regardless of the age of the platform - new or old.

Indeed, it is a myth that mainstream media is now irrelevant - because they have had to incorporate the techniques and the technology of the new media to stay relevant.
Liverpool top, but for how long? 10:10am on 02 Dec 2008 "True enough - except that they did not win this game and did not win their last home league game against Fulham either."

Phil...lets look at that in context. Chelsea - a nil nil draw then a loss. Liverpool, 2 nil nil draws. 1 point the difference. Liverpool top of the league.

What concerns me as a reds fan is the tactical decisions being made by Rafa, Pellegrino and Lee. It seems they rely on some statistical analysis rather than exploiting any weakness in the opposition.

To anyone watching the game it was obvious that having Babel working with Gerrard and Keane would have given the Hammers nightmares. Putting Ngog on seemed crazy and he spent 15 minutes giving the ball away and not knowing his role.

For me the loss of Torres should be the perfect opportunity for Babel. He is a versatile, quick and skillful player. It was worthless in the end but the goal he scored at the death in the CL semi against Chelsea was a perfect example of his ability.

Play Babel with Keane, Kuyt on the right, riera on the left and gerrard in the middle and you have the closest you will get to a worldclass attack without Torres.

Rafa has to address the goal scoring asap. Goal difference could well decide this in May.
Look out Skype, Google's calling 8:01pm on 17 Nov 2008 It is going to take something big from Google to take users away from Skype. This report by Rory doesnt show what that big thing is.

However, now Google is a player in the mobile phone space, perhaps we can see some alignment between their VOIP and Mobile services - free calls to ANY line, ANYWHERE, anyone?!
The mapping mess - Google v OS 7:55pm on 17 Nov 2008 Being someone who has worked within GIS for a number of years, i am on the side of the OS here.

The data held by the OS is more than just lat lons. It comprises whole sets of information that require formatting and work. To let Google have this information for them to monetise through Adwords with no kickback to the UK government and tax payer is a joke.

In the WEB2.0 economy, Google Maps is a platform and when it uses other organisations content on those maps, that company should receive a fee or a royalty. Yes, let the end user have it for free, or restrict certain data sets to the paid for GE products and give a rev share back to the owner of the content.

The OS is doing important work and by them putting their heels in, we could see the exporting of UK data as a new way for UK PLC and the taxpayer to make money.

His brother is a trainer with a MLB team, NY Yankees. The rumor is that Gilchrist may join up with them.
