Semenya's sex test explained 5:36pm on 11 Sep 2009 This whole issue stinks and has been handled in an amateur manner by both the IAAF and the IOC.
If there was any doubt about Semenyas sexuality then both bodies had a duty to the other athletes to investigate and nobody will argue against that but it should have been done quietly, without the publicity it has attracted, AND done well before any major competitions.
Whether the tests are positive or negative makes no difference, because from the time the story was put into the public domain Semenya has been looked upon by many as a freak of nature. This girls career has been ruined by the tittle tattle and you can only feel sorry for her.

You`re bringing up something that happened more than 3 years ago and was explained fully by both Tim Henman and the reporter as mere banter between the three of them. You are insistant the Scots make 2 a penny small minded comments about the English but have failed to give any examples.
I can however give you an example from two of Englands favourite football players, one a World cup winner.
The great Bobby Moore said that the Scottish football team were a bunch of Haggis bashers shortly after they beat England in 1967. Jimmy Greaves said that he loved to "stick one up the Jocks" prior to a match at Hampden. No Scotsman complained and these comments were taken in the jovial spirit that they were intended and we all got on with our friendly rivalry. It`s just a pity that you can`t do the same.

Whilst it is right and proper for them to ensure fair play for ALL athletes they must take criticism for the timing of the announcement that Semanya was undergoing gender assessment. The timing surely must have had the other atletes tittle tattling amongst themselves and pointing fingers ( no point in kidding it would not happen because it`s human nature) which can only add to the speculation of the outcome.
The best course of action would have been to allow the race to proceed and await the outcome of the tests before making any comment. If they come back positive that is time for decision making, if they come back negative things continue as per normal and nobody gets hurt or thrust into the limelight.
It`s not rocket science - just common sense.
Steely Ennis has golden glow 10:01pm on 16 Aug 2009 Got to take your hat off to Jessica Ennis, after the huge disappointment of the Olympics injury she has got herself fit again and proved that she was an olympic medal prospect.
She has done well, deserves her success and must be medal hope for 2012.
Bad-tempered Woods riled by rules row 9:56pm on 12 Aug 2009 Tiger Woods was seen throwing a golf club and spitting during the Open. People generally agreed that it set a bad example to young people AND that it was out of character for Tiger to show his frustrations openly. We all had our say and it has not been mentioned since.
I don`t think there was any need to revisit the subject and Ian, quite rightly, has been criticised for it.
I`m not Tigers biggest fan but there was no need to scrape over the ashes of a long dead fire.
Tiger must also take credit for speaking out on the "clock" incident, surely players should be warned about slow play well in advance of any sanction.

Ancelotti strikes first blow 4:37pm on 10 Aug 2009 I thought overall it was an entertaining game with good football some sloppy play the penalty shootout and of course controversy.
From my point of view Ballack did foul Evra and should have been booked at least. However the laws of the game clearly state that play continues until the ref blows his whistle to stop it. There`s also a requirement for the game to be stopped immediately should a player sustain a head injury.
Evra went down holding his face (part of his head) and if the ref allowed play to continue he must have thought Evra was feining injury and as such he should have been booked. If not, by the laws of the game, the match should have been stopped and the incident dealt with there and then.
What annoys fans more than anything is the inconsistency of decision making by referees who then hide behind the "down to interpretation" viewpoint.
In this instance by doing nothing the ref was wrong twice and left himself open to criticism from all concerned.
All that said I don`t think any neutral could deny Chelsea the win.

Totally agree with ypu on the Tiger comments. Throwing clubs, spitting and general sulking is not, or should not be, acceptable from a player of any sport who is looked up to by millions of young people around the world. Nobody can make any excuses for that type of behaviour, although many will try, and maybe Tiger needs to look at real champions (Nicklaus,Watson,Player etc) to see how to behave and control himself in public.
Picking an Open winner 4:29pm on 15 Jul 2009 It`s difficult to argue with the Tiger Woods brigade who only see one possible winner.
There are however one or two of our own guys who are well capable of winning.
Ross Fisher is the man who has impressed most over the last season and finishing well at Bethpage will have given him the self belief that he belongs with the best.
Lee Westwood has become the nearly man, taking over from Monty, and he just needs to tighten up with his putting to be a real contender.
Rory McIlroy has the game and is not intimidated by Tiger, that could prove vital come Sunday.
Sergio and Padraig both have the pedigree to do well, if the wind blows Padraig has the best chance.
Whatever the outcome we are in for 4 days of great golf. Winning score -3
Who's the greatest? 5:46pm on 06 Jul 2009 How can you possibly compare people from different sports, that require different levels of discipline, skill and fitness and try to decide which one is the greatest?. A golfer does not require a higher level of fitness than a tennis player or an Olympic athlete but the tennis player probably needs the same amount of skill as the golfer.
The argument about who is the greatest in their own sport is down to a personal viewpoint and can never be 100% sure because players from vastly different eras can`t be matched against each other.
What we can say with certainty is that Tiger is by far the best of the current generation of golfers and Roger has the best tennis record of the past 20 years at least but only time will show if they can ever be surpassed.
