I know you were probably in at the game, but what are your feelings about firstly the fact that there were a round of Brazilian league fixtures that night. Secondly that neither of the major terrestrial networks Globo and Band showed the game live outside of Minas Gereis state, and instead showed Palmeries at Flamengo.

Personally I thought I had seen it all in this country with football, but when I settled down to watch the second leg of the final in Sao Paulo(which was in Brazil) having watched the first leg live, I was amazed at the lack of respect for the competition in both the scheduling of the Brazilian league and it´s importance ahead of the 50th Libertadores final.

WE have a long way to go before Brazilian football and South American league tournaments can be taken serious.

Isn't that what they bought Kleberson for too. His 2002 World Cup was fantastic and United learnt a lot from that unfortunate (for both parties) situation, young player straight from Brazil with young wife and new baby.

I might add he is a very fair player too, stays on his feet a long time for a Brazilian. Please anyone who wishes to challenge this bare in mind I work with children in Sao Paulo and I see 5 year and upwards simulating in the play ground regularly as a result of what they watch on television and whilst it happens in every league in the World, it drives me crazy here.

Some players at United started too, but please notice it has stopped and the point is simple. Play each game as it comes. United made some good chances last night and the second goal was great. Julio Ceasar wasn't so bad either.
You want United to step up to the plate and up their performance, isn't time you reporters did the same. Come on we want better than is currently on show, it's not like you have to play the 90mins!

The final frontier 1:16pm on 16 Feb 2009 Interesting piece. I think even by Brazilian coaches' standards I was shocked at the Chelsea decision. Firstly to hire him (really were was the evidence that he could succeed at club level with superstars let a lone the Chelsea ones). Secondly as I read on 606 recently, why didn't Chelsea go that extra £2mil to get Robinho, if they can pay off Scolari with £7.5mil! Just poor, poor business by Chelsea.

I would have liked a reference to Luxumborgo at Madrid. I always was dubious of that apointment, and thought they brought him in to get Robinho. I would have liked to see him stay longer in Europe. He is clearly class in terms of winning Brazilian club tournaments, probably one of the best in recent times, and I think he might have challenged this idea of adapting to club football in Europe.

But maybe it is a matter of time Tim. The way British clubs learned to support and get the best out of South American players, maybe they can do the same with their coaches. Let face it so far it is the European clubs with poor records with support for coaches, who seek to buy success who have failed to appoint the right coach for the job.
What price Brazilian football? 2:21pm on 08 Dec 2008 I watched the game yesterday and the most exciting thing was the torrential rain. Goias who played so well in Rio last week to come from 3-0 down to win 3-3, were terrible yesterday. Perhaps being away from home with more SanPaulinhos in the ground, didn't help, but they rarely attacked and only seemed content to defend after the terrible decision of a goal. I would love to see the stats from the game as they gave the ball away so much.
That is twice now Sao Paulo have benefitted by the home teams necessity to move grounds. Against the wonderful Athletico Paranense in the 2005 Libertadores final, Paranense were forced to play in Port Alegre, because their ground one of the best in the league was deemed too small. Sao Paulo had as many fans in the ground and won confortably.
I agree they have come a long way in relegating the big teams but still have a way to go. I want to see the Libertadores played as a final (one game) in a nuetral venue as it is in Europe. The Sul Americana played at the same time, instead of the second half of the season, and the Brazilian Cup contain all the best teams instead of missing the top 5 as is currently the practice.

Wednesday's international football 9:12pm on 20 Aug 2008 I will never understand why any football fan outside of the UK can not listen to Scotland games via the internet. Seriously surely a FREE stream with adverts would pay for itself. Really who is missing out if the BBC braodcast live to the UK that it can't be the same for the the rest of the World utter noncense.
I can't even get video of Brits winning medals.

I was pleased with the British effort all round, but then anyone that is mad enough to "Tri" deserves credit.
Britain's cycling success - is it cricket? 7:36pm on 18 Aug 2008 I think it is great. Read Graham Obree's autobiography to get an idea of how cycling use to be. Manchester is fantasic as it moves away from the south of England and this is why we have all 4 Nations having success in the Veladrome.

The issue of funding other sports won't go away of course but at the beginning of the 90s Sport was a mess in the UK. 6 of the (UK) so called National Centres where in England with 1 in Wales. The Government (it was estimated) gave back only one seventh of what it made out of sport (an estimated 7 Billion per year) and the Sports council still identified women as a minority group (51% population).

I hope success breeds success in this case. If only for the sake that it gets kids on their bikes, or out running around. Of course the grassroots is about participation so let's see more cycle ways, more parks and more opportunities for the kids.
