World Cup heaven or hell? 4:00pm on 30 Nov 2009 I am an Irishman and live in Johannesburg. I have to say that the article is defintely exaggerated on many fronts. I won't re-iterate on the crime issue, however, all I can say is that I have never had an issue in Joburg. In terms of transport, I would seriously recommend that you to book a car ASAP. Airports will be clogged. Unless you are unlucky to be based in Cape Town (fantastic and beautiful city as it is), you will be able to drive to most of the other desintations for games within 5-6 hours max, e.g. Joburg - Durban = 5 1/2 hours, Joburg - Bloemfonein = 6 hours etc. Even the Joburg- Cape Town time stated in the article is completely over-stated, it's 1,200km's, and takes 12-13 hours maximum, which one can do in day if traveling and sharing driving with mates. On the weather front, yes, it can be cold at night, however you are pretty much guaranteed blue skies and sunshine, with 22-23 degrees during the day in Joburg and Pretoria. Durban is glorious in the winter, and nice and warm, t-shirt weather on most days and with warm evenings. Cape Town can be mixed. This article is a little bit doom and gloom, but as someone who lives here, I can tell it's defintiely worth the trip.
The rise of the English South Africans 4:47pm on 05 Nov 2009 I don't agree with sportsmen having the opportunity to change nationalities. As an Irishman, I am well aware how we have managed to take advantage of this as per the Jack Charlton era "granny rule", however I do take umbrage with those that have already represented their country and can then still change nationalities. This is what has happened with Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan. By taking two of our best players, cricket in Ireland is always going to struggle, and how much can one really buy into representing a 'new country' having already played for one's homeland?

Confident Lions aim to out-flank Boks 01:20am on 19 Jun 2009 Welshtanman, In response to your comment regarding bringing Hayes on tour, if you ask O'Connell or O'Callaghan, they say that the strength of Hayes is a huge plus, particularly out of touch, whereby he brings an additional lineout option into play as he's strong enough to lift a player to the appropriate height all by himself. Furthermore, looks can be deceiving, if you view stats of Six Nations matches, Hayes is often right up there in terms of number of tackles made. He is very mobile for his size. Let's hope he can contribute now at this late stage and prove his undoubted worth.

What have been your Beijing highlights? 2:36pm on 22 Aug 2008 Usain Bolt has been a revelation, let's hope he can now win gold in the 4 x 100m. Question: can someone tell me if Usain Bolt substitutes back in for one of the Jamaican team that ran the semi-final in his place yesterday, does that chap also receive a medal if Jamaica wins gold/silver or bronze in the final?
