Shut that window! 1:42pm on 06 Feb 2009 Can't understand why we don't just have 1 transfer window wihich runs from 1st May to 31st July.
Loan signings could be available anytime during the rest of the season, but you buy a player and you've got him for the year (good or bad).
Might make some managers think a little more about who they buy and what they're going to pay them if they don't have the 'safety net' of being able to move them on in January if it's not working.
It would also give the Managers a chance to look at things a little longer term. is it only me who feels the number of managers sacked seems to increase the closer you get to the transfer window.
If we didn't have this "better make a change in manager before the transfer window so they can buy in some new players mentality maybe chairman would think a little more about who they are hiring as well.
Anyway, just another opinion.

Wild about 'Arry 12:47pm on 14 Nov 2008 Always enjoy your articles Robbo, and I agree Drogba was a bit of a plank with the middle finger incident (and should'n't get away with it) but to say whatever punishment he gets is "not enough for such blatant abuse of the fans".

Are these the poor fans who provide a wide range of vocabulary and hand gestures the moment any of these players get near them.

And please don't start saying, "yeah, but there's kids and women there". I know and I can't work out why any self respecting parent would take their child to a football game and expose them to the puerile neanderthal behaviour that exists on the terraces today.

If we are banning people for blatant abuse maybe fans should be banned if they can't show respect to players and fellow supporters.

It disgusts me when you see a father (and sometimes even a mother) standing next to their child gesticulating and shouting abuse to a player and then, oh what a suprise, there child does the same.

I'm not condoning Drogba's actions at all, I think footballers behaviour leaves a lot to be desired, but fans should have a look at their behaviour as well.
Aisle be there 1:45pm on 27 Aug 2008 A lot of good points have been made but I can't agree with the overall sentiment that it is the retailers who are wrong and we are not given a choice - we always have a choice.

I can understand where 'Greennortherner' is coming from but why would you want to buy 1 chicken breast. We have feeezers. By larger quantities, stock the freezer, the freezer works more efficiently (better for the environment) and we have less trips to the supermarket (also better for the environment).

'Johnhcrf' makes a good point about the consumer affecting change, but why should we have to accept a lack of foresight in (the current and previous) government's recycling policy.

I want to recycle but I'm told what I can and can't put in my recycling bin.

Surely I should be able to put all plastics into a recycling bin (for plastic products) and let the recycling firm sort out what can and can't be recycled effectively, efficiently and with environmental consciousness.

These recycling firms shoudl be established and subsidised by major manufacturers and retailers, with the level of subsidy dependant on the amount of packaging they use, produce, etc.

This would not only help fund a recycling program which helps to engage 'Mr Joe Public' by making it as easy as possible and would also encourage the aforementioned corporations to look at the packaging they use.

Nothing is ever simple but plastics (and packaging) have helped us greatly and we shouldn't loose sight of this.

Surely, the issue is about getting each 'stakeholder' in the plastic packaging food chain - from the manufacturers of the packaging down to us consumers - working as one not looking to pass the buck onto someone else.
