Well said

At last, we have a government willing to stand up for compassion as opposed to vengeance.

I am aware the SNP are so careful to state that the decision made was entirely on compassionate grounds but I was so glad some other SNP MSPs referred to the fact that he may very well be innocent.

He is home to die with his family and that is where he should be.

To allow any area or hospice to try to treat this man compassionately is a ridiculous suggestion. Not only costly but neither safe nor sensible. Would anyone want to die with a media circus camped outside waiting for you to die. Your family harassed for news in a strange country as you die.

I can imagine the criticism if Kenny had flown to America to see the relatives there, the cost would have been criticised and he would have been accused of posturing on the world stage.

The debate in parliament today, said a lot for the stature of the SNP, they held their nerve in the face of parliament full of MSPs trying to make a political point, over the life or death of a man dying of cancer. The other parties have shamed our country and parliament.

I have a serious objection to the Labour party saying that the SNP do not speak for the people of Scotland, well they speak for me and every other person I have spoken to about this issue.

I think it will be hard for most people to appreciate the desperation a cancer patient and his family feels towards the end.. They want the Chemo, they are always living in hope that it will not just reduce the pain at the end, they hope for a miracle which rarely happens.
The Queen 3:56pm on 01 Jul 2009 I would have liked to see a little of the children's party and the children meeting the queen. The only thing I can find is the queens speech not even Mr Salmond's speech is available.
Devolution poll 3:40pm on 29 Jun 2009 I am indeed very suspicious of the poll simply because the BBC carried it out.

I am very suspicious of the findings of the poll dripped in the order the BBC want to announce the findings.

I watched Brian's programme last night and I can smell a BBC set up. It is a Labour driven organisation.

Today we have quotes from an army chief no less, to use an old saying, big guns no less. Things must be getting desperate; the people must be enjoying their Scottish government too much. The people must have too much faith in their Scottish government. I smell fear.

Look back to the time 10 years ago when Scotland was insisting on separatism, look at the media reports and you will find the same nonsense. We got devolution as a sop to the determined, to attempt to deflect the determined, that tells you the determined were truly many. Blair admitted as much, you do not submit to the will of the few.

I think they all believe we have not the intelligence to discern bias when we see and hear it. I think they all believe we can be brainwashed.

The trouble is Labour and the BBC believes Scottish people are not worth the bother. They are only worth using the income from. They have no importance, their will is not important.

The silliness from the Calman Commission and the eventual cost of the tax proposals in this current and future recession to the Scottish people proves that. Tax comes from working people. The tax from all things Scottish that will make money goes to Westminster coffers.

If the English government want trident let them have it, it is after all their choice, but let them put it in England. Let their families be in danger from leaks and explosions and all other problems that come from Trident.

Finally give a thought to how the English people on the street see the Scottish people. The BBC have your say allows every comment that states the Scots live off the English and the rest of the UK. Ask yourself a simple question if this is true why try to keep us from independence. Why not please the English people and voters and let us go. Could it be we are still some use to them financially?
Will he do it? 11:48pm on 02 Jun 2009 Darling never seemed effective as an MP, why did Brown think he would make a good chancellor. I suppose we must assume he judged him by his own capabilities which were nil.

My biggest fear is that with no jobs in London some of the Scottish MPs like Darling and Brown may decide to come back to Scotland and stand in the Scottish Parliament. The list system could allow them in. Enough to give me nightmares. It seems at least possible that the motion asking for the dissolution of Parliament may win. Some of the Labour MPs may feel it unfair that they have been sacrificed at the alter of Labours want to carry on at any cost and may vote against him. Some have nothing left to lose.
Favouring reform 1:03pm on 27 May 2009 Dear dear dear, why are we all arguing about these two parties and what they mean to do in the future, we can be sure of one thing it will not benefit Scotland.

Vote in Labour and they will find a way round any rules brought in to save public money on expenses. The guilty MPs will be found not guilty or one or two will be used as trophy "found guilty and gone to jail" to excuse the rest. We will have more of cameras, ID cards and any other means possible to cost taxpayers money and find out how often we use the computer, and speak to our family and friends instead of reading the "New Labour propaganda" or to find out how often we go to the loo.

We will have a country full of immigrants using housing the NHS and police time because as finance improves the large companies will want a workforce again. Remember a great many who now claim benefits are people from other countries brought here to work and now have no jobs. The companies go under or cut down and the taxpayer is left to look after these people.

We will have Bills losing all rights to our body even though it is proven in Scotland that advertising improves organ donation, which reminds me have all of the people on this website reading this gone to the appropriate website to donate your organs. You cannot expect to be given what you will not freely give.

Vote in the Conservative party and the rest of the UK will lose its NHS as it knows it, it will be privatised and if the Conservatives get their hands on Scotland so will we in Scotland.

Why not concentrate on the important issues and speaking to other people today and point out that our parliament has cleaned up pretty much all of the problems concerning pay and expenses.

An independent Scotland can do so much more; at its helm, we have a real economist.

At the very minimum, an everyday person on the street can submit a petition to our parliament, which has a more than fair chance of influencing our MSPs who are our lawmakers. That is true democracy, a lot to do yet a lot of changes to be made but with the right of choice over our own economy and total right of fiscal autonomy which will come from independence we will do better.

Now that is worth concentrating on instead of Texas and promises about expenses.

Next, we need to worry about the EU its expense system for MEPs and the money they cost us to make laws that allow prisoners in Jail to claim because the wee souls do not have a toilet.

Then we need to ask questions about a person who sits at a desk in the BBC reading from a prompter who earns £92 K for doing so. If that is so, what do people earn for going to Texas.
Away with the Honourable Member 1:07pm on 12 May 2009 George Foulkes is a man I find very hard to listen to until today.Sent to Scottish Parliament to try to make life hard for any person advocating separatism.

Although nothing he says explains or excuses the MPs who have used this system to their own advantage he has a point. The woman who sat accusing him is paid £92,000 PA. £252 per day. More than a pensioner gets in a week. Why do the media not start to bring this to the attention of the public. It seems she is probably one of the lower paid presenters. Why do we need to pay so much for a person who simply asks questions.

I could do that, I do it very well and in an unbiased way, I would ask these questions for no pay but only if I get free make-up.

BBC presenters are also paid from the public purse and no amount of claiming they do not even make a phone call from the BBC will stop the public starting on them next. Maybe that is the Idea, maybe the full disclosure later in the year will be buried under claims that BBC presenters are paid too much.

Catholics will understand that holy week sees the pope with a very full calendar of services, one that no doubt even in this dreadful happening the people will attend and hopefully take comfort from.

44. Good comment

The security measures connected to a visit from the Pope would indeed cause havoc when these services should be concentrating on the rescue effort. This visit should, and will, be done when he can offer most comfort to the bereaved, injured, and the homeless currently living in their grief, in tents, I hope it helps these poor souls.

None of this explains or excuses the lack of respect and reverence shown to these people
Tools of the trade 11:21pm on 12 Apr 2009 Far worse than the decision whether or not to send teams or Anchors to the scene is the coverage of the funeral Mass. The very least the BBC could have provided is an interpreter who is Catholic. The translation was very disrespectful to a country predominately Catholic. The tone of voice more suited to a pop concert

News 24 showed "selected snatches" of this Mass. We see the full funeral of many individuals and we cannot spare the time or a channel to show this momentous occasion.

This person continually spoke over the only chance the people in this country had of sharing the grief these devastated people must feel. The relatives, many injured themselves, sat with their dead at their feet, while this woman spoke over and interviewed other people over their grief. Shameful lack of respect and reverence.
Expressions of sympathy 4:53pm on 02 Apr 2009 What can you say to comfort the relatives of these men, nothing. This is a terrible thing to happen. Many will leave devastated wives children parents and siblings.

We can send our condolences and I certainly do.

They deserve nothing less than the truth.

I hope this has just been a tragic accident and not an avoidable fault; their deaths are tragic enough without a reason such as a lack of careful servicing of the helicopter they were travelling in.

God bless and keep the men who died and eventually a kind of peace for families and friends.

Why are YOU as a journalist not asking plain and simple questions about the disparity of the figures set out between Westminster and the Scottish Government and Dunfermline Building Society?
Why are you as a journalist, not asking questions such as “Why, when a credible alternative exists would this Westminster government set out to cost the taxpayer more money“?
Why are you as a journalist not asking the question “Is this personal against Scotland and its Government and its people”?
