Eveything is NORMALLY cyclical.... but sometimes the cycle gets broken and needs mending.... this hasn't been any part of a normal cycle... it's sort of the point of it!

Has the gov ever considered starting from the point of assessing what level indebtedness it wants the people it was elected to represent to have - both business a domestic. Rather than how much a bank can lend as a proportion of the variable value of assets it holds at any given time.

So ask not if Banks should be able to lend multiples of 20 or 25, but rather do you want the population, in general, to be owing at multiples of 20 to 25

Then reverse engineer the solution – try it, some of the actions are obvious, some will be hard to swallow but in the long run we get away from working just to repay debt.... and maybe we get out of the fear of scaling back debt and the consequences it will have on the economy!

I am amazed that a gov that could obviously see the growth in debt management companies, couldn’t work out that maybe debt was a problem not a solution….

Remember saving for retirement is workable in the long term…. Speculating for retirement, by definition, can only benefit the few!

Is there really a way out without fundimental changes far deeper than the cuts we will hear about!

I doubt looking back to a time when we were an industrialised nation with modest borowing will help!

We are talking about financial organisations that are connected at the hip to institutional investors...

So I'm managing a portfolio with substantial holding of shares in a Bank... I'm looking for a short term gain. I put a Patsy in charge (on a good salary) and directly employ an ex-banker to advise.....

I get my massive bonus, my ex-banker get's his :)

But on the other hand G20 might turn their sights to BBC presenters and Footballers next.... afterall if we are closing down the Free Market.....

Then let the rest fight it out in the unprotected market place - if people want higher risk for higher return, let them have it

Part of the issue here was that Banks played on the belief they were low yield, low risk.... when all along they were low yield, high risk!

We don't need 'the best' to run a bank, we just need sound solid management - rewarded well (not stupidly!)

It's not a choice of choosing to pay for the BBC or Sky

Yes you can choose the BBC on it's own - but if you don't want to pay for the BBC then you can't have anything in your house that receives a TV or Radio signal, otherwise you'll get Fined!!!

So if I want to only watch Sky (or ITV) I first pay the BBC £142.50 for the pleasure - or ultimately, if I refuse to pay the fee and the fines, I go to prison!

Seems a little like Microsoft preinstalling Internet Explorer in Windows - you could always install another browser, but most don't bother - this practice has been deemed unfair!

Cut the Licence Fee to a basic charge and reduce the BBC to 2 TV channels, a handful of Radio stations and a more reasonable web presense.... if there is demand for anything other than that then the market will fill the gap..... in addition cut the 'Big Stars' fees - I'm sure they'll find a way to get themselves on TV, if they don't then maybe they aren't so 'Big'

Beware the BBC NEWS Trojan Horse - it brings with it 11 TV Channels, 11 UK Radio Station, A World Service, 6 National Radio stations, 19 UK Regional Radio Stations (plus Scottish, N Ireland and Wales Local Radio) and a web site that cost £110 million in 2007/8 - apparently none of this would be there if it wasn't for the BBC....
What RBS's results say about QE 1:58pm on 07 Aug 2009 Money moving about, so presumably someone in the Financial Services Indusrty will be taking a cut (of £122 billion)..... then it all stops!!!!

Only one Winner, and it's the Financial Services Industry..... No Change then!

No wonder we are seeing the Investment Banking divisions showing profit!

Good one Bobby, if it didn't cost so much and the sentence for not paying is a fine and possible prison I'd have laughed out loud!!!!

...... we now see as the BBC impinges more and more into the commercial market that choice will be restricted rather than expanded

I still can't work out why the BBC doesn’t stick to the basics..... why do we have god knows how many regional channels, regional radio stations, what's with the free video streaming - charge for it and see if it washes it's face.... and 90% of the BBC web site is a waste of money!

Start living in the real world for a moment and tell us if most of what you do is viable!!!

I always love comparing the adverts......
Sky - Extolling the benefits of subscribing to films, movies, etc
Virgin - Movies on demand, content....
BBC - How much you'll be fined if you don't pay your licence fee!!! (stunning that someone would produce an ad that bullies its customers...)

Only someone working for the BBC would come out with such an insesitive comment.....
