Can Burnley survive in the Premier League? 10:34am on 14 Aug 2009 Yes, it will be a long learning curve in the Prem this season for the Clarets, but they proved to be very capable against all the Prem teams they played last year. Teams such as Blackburn and Bolton and the likes will have to vastly improve their play this season,as for what bit I saw of them last year they will be Championship contenders this time.

Frankly some of the football played in the Championship is easily on par with most of the Premiership hangers on. Middlesborough and Newcastle have been hangers on for years and they may even find hanging on to the Championship contenders hard going this season.

Burnley will survive and they will, I am sure, hopefully cure some of the press and media boy's cataracts in the process.
True greatness beckons for boy racer 9:00pm on 07 Jul 2009 75. Now that Cav has crushed the opposition twice in two days, and worn the Green Jersey for the last three days in the world's biggest annual sporting event, do you still think that he's not very interesting ?
Who's the greatest? 00:17am on 07 Jul 2009 Re 96. So you think all cyclists are cheats. The sad truth is that some of them are. However cycling is no different to many other sports including football, athletics, tennis, golf etc. As soon as a major drugs scandal comes to light such as the recent Operation Pueto fiasco -where there were more atheletes, footballers and tennis players on DR Fuentes books than cyclists - it was, as usual, the cyclists that got the publicity . Why dont you take your blinkers off. Lance Armstrong has probably taken more dope tests than anybody on this planet. The press never seem to hound the other sportsmen and women in the same way. Perhaps they are getting bungs to keep things quiet. When a drugs scandal involving golfers seemed set to appear a couple of years ago it was soon swept under the carpet.
And whilst I'm ranting. Nicole Cook number one female cyclist in the world , Mark Cavendish ,23years old, the worlds fastest sprinter and greatest British road cyclist ever, both British, both squeaky clean and practically unheard off here. Why ? !
Who's the greatest? 9:05pm on 06 Jul 2009 Re 80. There is plenty of money in golf not because it is a sport but because very rich, high flying, corperate business people enjoy doing it.
It does however take considerable skill and practice to play it well and Tiger Woods, certainly, is very skilled and gets plenty of practice .
I am very good at wallpapering because i'm very skilled and get loads of practice. Perhaps wallpapering should be classed as a sport !
Who's the greatest? 8:41pm on 06 Jul 2009 Surely golf can only be classed as a pastime along with darts, snooker, bowls, tiddlywinks, fishing in the cut, monopoly, conkers and cross stitch embroidery. Roger Federer is a very fine athlete and sportsman and probably the greatest tennis player ever.
Still no takers for Lance Armstrong then ! He has just had three years off on the beer and has still managed to put himself into third place today in the TdF which is arguably the toughest- and biggest- annual sporting event in the world.
Golf. Tiger Woods. You cannot be serious ! ! !

True greatness beckons for boy racer 09:01am on 12 Jun 2009 RE 69. Strange then, but how come that Lance Armstrong, 7 times TdF winner, has never been the winner of BBC SPOTY, or if my memory serves me right he's never been nominated ? ? ?

Good blog about Cav. Though why on earth did he turn out on the track again in Poland? He really does not have to prove anything in the velodrome as his failure to win a medal at the Bejing Olympics was all Bradley Wiggins's fault.
Talking of Wiggo, do you rate him for the TdF prologue? I bet that if he wins it he will get more publicity than half a dozen Cav stage wins !

True greatness beckons for boy racer 6:46pm on 07 Jun 2009 Well there is no doubt that Nicole Cooke is the world number one in womens cycling. However she did at least get a look in at the BBC SPOTY.
Poor Cav never got a mention despite proving his class and ability time and again last year. Someone will probably correct me, but Tommy Simpson won SPOTY back in the 60s with less achievements than Cavendish.And come to think of it - as far as anyone can tell - CAV RIDES CLEAN !
I was at the finish of the 2007 Tour of Britain Stage in Kendal where Cavendish finished a very creditable 2nd after a memorable two man break that finished over Old Town from Kirby Lonsdale and up Kendal's Beast Bank to the line.
That day the Manxman wanted to prove the point that he could ride a bike and not just sprint. After the presentations this very personable young man, who must have been absolutly knacked, spent 15 or 20 mins. surrounded by a crowd of fans and autograph hunters, signing away, chatting and posing for photos whilst his team mates and managers desperately tried to coax him back to the car.
That day I knew that I had seen a real sports star !!
