Answering your questions about 5 live 08:43am on 24 Nov 2009 Cant you put the blog of the phone in issue up earlier so one can make a comment earlier because not everyone has access to a computer or a radio whilst working when the programme is being broadcast. You'd already confirmed at about 0700hrs the phone in today was about the commencement of this futile Iraq enquiry yet there is no way to make a comment beforehand. Thanks
France v Ireland should be replayed - Liam Brady 4:13pm on 21 Nov 2009 Reference comments of Roy Keane. Absolutely right! Makes a change to hear a former player being so down to earth. Mind you, if he's after the Republic of Ireland's managers job he'd better sort Ipswich Town out first!
Anonymity - but who is it protecting? 11:11pm on 20 Nov 2009 Wasn't paying much attention to the interview because my immediate impression from the way it was introduced was that this was a woman who just wanted revenge. I was surprised however that in this 'naming and shaming' era in which we live that the identity of a man who broke several ribs of a weeks old baby hadn't been revealed particularly by some of the screaming tabloids who would have easily got around this legal protective clause.

Then of course all was revealed! Her former husband was a serving member of Her Majesties Forces! Is it any wonder his identity hadn't been revealed as it would have completely shattered the myth that service life provides stability for all its members and whom, in the light of their current commitments are presented generally as a cut above many of their civilian counterparts!
Is Cheating Ever Justified? 11:58pm on 19 Nov 2009 Ref 18: Exactly Stirling. Perhaps another issue that should be discussed yet unfortunately hasn't is the issue of the recently disclosed salary details of top BBC executives. A mere £20 million at the last count according to today's 'elated' Daily Torygraph which will obviously exploit the figures to fling more dirt at the BBC.

Maybe the discussion could then extend to examining the salaries of the editors and presenters etc.

Unless the embattled BBC 'faithfull' are allowed to ask real questions that bring the BBC to account then the likes of the Torygraph will do a better job!
Is Cheating Ever Justified? 11:41pm on 19 Nov 2009 Yes Sarnia I know 5 Live is a News and Sports station. My point was why this issue on the main Phone-in programme AGAIN!

It was covered again for a good thirty minutes on Victoria Derbyshire's programme. That was all that was needed in the first place along with the occasional caller throughout.

On the subject: Cheating is endemic in all walks of life particularly in a society conditioned by money and greed. If politicians, industrialists, bankers etc cheat their own system and not held to account then its hardly surprising when footballers cheat!
Is Cheating Ever Justified? 09:01am on 19 Nov 2009 For heavens sake! You've already discussed this same topic several times on phone-in's. Every time a footballer cheats is it going to wipe out far more important economic and social issues that need discussing. For example all the pomp and pageantry accompanying the Queens Speech yesterday fully underlined there's not a bit of difference between any of the mainstream parties today. If anything its cheating by the media not to discuss that political crisis!
Your views on those who go AWOL from the military 9:19pm on 14 Nov 2009 Rumdoodle. So you didn't believe in the political rationale of going into Iraq but you as a serving member of HMF just got on with it because that's what you are paid for. Very easy to say when the mainstream media you heard and read supported the deployment particularly when UK residents arn't going to feel the physical effects of the war.

Hypothetical situation...supposing a genuine left wing government (not New Labour as you alluded it was) was elected and implemented a manifesto commitment to militarily remove USA bases here in the UK in the event of the USA government refusing to do so! If all the service chiefs opposed the policy I'm sure you would.

It's not all black and white. Now you are in civvy street you really should get out of the institutionalised service mentality and stop referring to everyone who thinks in a less robotic fashion as you do as a 'leftie'!

Suspect he was just after a bit of publicity knowing that 'some' media outlets would jump on the bandwagon about anything if, as The Sun says, 'it's what the people want to hear! Sometimes you see more on radio than you do TV!
Your views on those who go AWOL from the military 8:47pm on 14 Nov 2009 If it's ok for the 'highly respected' former Army Chief General Richard Dannatt to reveal he'd been talking to Cameron's Tories for eighteen months before his retirement then surely it's just as permissible for a soldier whose military experiences encouraged him to develop a political mind and to argue it's wrong to fight for what is primarily a Tory illegal ideological war!
Crown Jewels and Compensation 12:46pm on 14 Nov 2009 Of course it's a relief that the three year old victim did not suffer extensive permanent injuries. But as regards compensation, what next?

The real question should be why were two three year olds alone in a car with access to a car jack which, one of whom clearly thought was a toy.

If anything the parents of both should have been prosecuted. Before long they'll be banning nursery schools on suspicion of breeding terrorists or hardened criminals.

Only heard a bit of the interview but the obvious question now is what's the mother going to do with the compensation once she gets it. Give it to children in need?
