Capping emissions? 3:38pm on 09 Jul 2008 Hi James, I've been reading your blog on China since the day it started. Up till today, the only thing I can say is that I am very disappointed.

The one thing I was hoping is that you may take advantage of the fact that you are stationed in China and spend some time with the ordinary Chinese people, and write about them. However, whatever you have written are from the same 30000 feet view above where anyone, no matter where he/she is, with a computer and internet can do.

All the fact you wrote can be found on internet, and I failed to see any fresh opinions from you. The content of this blog is entially the same with all other news in all western media. You have some unique advantages when starting this blog, but I didn't see you put it at use.
Xinjiang in mind 9:26pm on 16 Jun 2008 As someone who have many relatives, friends in Urumqi (some of them moved in with General Zuo Zongtang 150 years ago), I can tell you the terrorists threat in Xinjiang is very very real. So many bus bombing has happened in the past, that now very few people dare to take bus during holidays. The attacks were not reported nationwide because the Chinese government is always fear of frictions between Han and Uighurs. In general, Uighurs in Xinjiang live in a privileged status. They tend to get a lighter sentence than a Han Chinese for the same crime. They got easier access to colleges. What I can tell you is, if a Uighurs boy or girl tries to even half ass obey the law and put a third effort in study compared to a Han kid, she/he is almost guaranteed for the best colleges and will be treated specially when it comes to promotion, etc. It is funny that US Congress should say religion activities are strictly limited. Come during the time of Gulbang Festival (I don't know how to say in English) and you can judge by yourself. If that is called restriction, there's nothing can be called free. But anyway, everyone knows the US congress is just a bunch of puppets controled by big corps and illegal immigrants. Just think about any other city in the world that people are afraid of taking buses, I guess that is Juresalem. The terrorism threat in XInjiang is as real as the Sun in the sky. The Chinese government really needs to do better protecting its people and stop giving the Uighurs special rights such as carrying long swords in cities.

At last, a word to James. It seems that you have been in China for a long time, yet many of your articles are still quite disconnected from the reality. You are already in China, which gives a great chance to get the first hand information. Instead of just 'looking out of the window', why not get on to the street and talk to the people. I bet many of them will tell stories.

China is changing 8:01pm on 30 Apr 2008 To be honest, after seeing how bias your company (BBC) was during the torch relay report in London, Paris, and San Francisco, I am curious to see how different you are as an employee of this company. The torch relay apparently passed 20 countries, and were welcomed by huge crowds in 18. Yet you only focused on those rioters and tried to cast an image that the torch was not welcomed anywhere.

As a Chinese living overseas for my entire adult life, I found it ironic that thousands Chinese came overseas thinking childishly that the western media is fair, only to find they are at most on the same level with the communist party propaganda, only in a more hidden way. I am very glad this olympics, and this torch relay woke up millions of Chinese who thought the western media is alway fair.

Now since you start writing, I hope you will do better than your employer. And I will keep my eye on it. And I hope you don't delete comments like your employer did on 'Have your say'. Until you prove yourself, I won't think you are any difference from your other colleagues.

btw I am really glad BBC is open to China now so the news will go through some real scrutiny.
