Wenger finds defeat hard to swallow 11:12am on 03 Dec 2009 What a load of fuss about nothing. This is just journalists and broadcasters trying to make a story out of a non event. They didn't shake hands. So? Does it matter? No, not in the slightest. Has anyone been adversely affected or offended? No, almost certainly not. Hughes actually seemed amused and was quick to seize on the opportunity to publicly take the moral high ground. Why pander to his desire to play the media game? Hughes snubbed Wenger and Wenger walked off. I suggest sports journalist do a little more investigative journalism and find some real stories rather than just turning sport into a shrieking gossip mag.
Rory Fallon - New Zealand's new sporting hero 1:26pm on 02 Dec 2009 I love that Fallon believes that God changed Fifa's regulations to enable Fallon to play for New Zealand. That has to be one of the best quotes I've ever seen.
Haye does what he has to do 09:54am on 08 Nov 2009 I haven't been that enthralled in a fight for years. Heavyweight fights often deterioriate into lumbering and hugging, but Valuev-Haye was something special.

Haye talked the talk and walked the walk. He's a worthy champion, especially considering his injury. He boxed beautifully and his movement was impressive. He must have covered at least four times the distance Valuev did.

It's during fights like that it becomes clear why judges all score differently. Most of those rounds were so hard to call that by the end I really had no idea who was going to be given the win. It's not until you get to see some of the replays that you see all the punches that connected. That's great for the suspense and atmosphere, but with all the cameras, they could probably come up with a reliable scoring system. That way audience and boxers would know the score. And then a losing boxer would come out twice as hard to get a KO. But having said that, I'm a traditionalist and would hate to lose the three selectively blind judges.
Relaxed Wilkinson still in search of perfection 12:10pm on 05 Nov 2009 Mike Ford's anecdote is a bit odd. Much as I like how it shows Jonny's character, I'd have thought he was pretty au fait with how a defensive system works by now.

Johnson primed for battle ahead 01:16am on 04 Nov 2009 On those fixtures Mr Fordyce, I reckon the RFU hands a list of the possible fixtures to Rob Andrew and Martin Johnson and informs them of how much each match will bring in. They might also mention which ones Sky are interested in broadcasting. RA and MJ would then be encouraged to think of the financial and playing aspects when they advise on which fixtures they think should be chosen and on what dates. The RFU would then decide. Obviously this is all conjecture.

As Fiji and Samoa are in the area and the main way their national unions get money is by playing fixtures abroad and getting a cut, it would have been great both for them and for the England team if the first England game had been against one of those two.
Johnson primed for battle ahead 8:51pm on 03 Nov 2009 Oh why oh why did he have to retire? Surely Martin Johnson wouldn't let a little thing like age stop him.
At least England aren't playing South Africa. It's going to be a difficult enough series as it is. I sometimes doubt the wisdom of playing the best teams in the world when you are trying to gel a new team and build confidence through back to back wins. A couple of easier games where the team gets a lot of ball and space letting the backs familiarise themselves with how they all play might be good. But any advantage you might get from playing some smaller teams would have been negated by the injuries considering much of this squad wouldn't be in the starting line up.
Anyone know if they pick the fixtures in terms of what would be good for the team, or on what gate receipts the RFU will get?
Holyfield shows Haye the way 10:30am on 03 Nov 2009 I haven't looked forward to a fight as much as this one for a long time. Whatever the respective skill levels of the Haye and Valuev, Valuev's size and strength can't be ignored, making Haye an underdog. And there's nothing like cheering for an underdog with the skill to win.

Whatever the players might say about their ability to handle the early-season turbulence, for a lot of the match last night Norwich looked like a team of strangers, often lacking the confidence and inspiration to do anything with the ball. Not all of that is explained by the number of new signings on the pitch.

The Gunn affair has been badly handled; he might not have done enough last year to show he was up to the task, but the timing of his sacking was awful. And why allow him to bring in players another manager might not want?

Looking forward to seeing what Lambert can do though. He needs to put Grant Holt on a better fitness regime. Good player, but he seemed to be struggling fitness wise and carrying a little excess weight.
