Should Darling back Lloyds' rights issue? 4:07pm on 08 Oct 2009 #28 - Don't worry about me old son, it is just very annoying when stories lie this are peddled by serious journalists as it feed the short sellers desire to drive down share prices. Rest assured, withintwo weeks, nothing will have changed, the SP will be back up at 105+ and then the whole sorry tale begins again. Luckily I rode the wave from the bottom on Lloy, RBS and Barclays but there are a lot of people out there who have lost a lot of money because of these kind of scares.
Should Darling back Lloyds' rights issue? 1:06pm on 08 Oct 2009 Pesto, I have been buying Lloyds hsaes for the last few months, this is not going to happen, Lloyds are just trying to negotiate down the APS by "scaring" HMG into thinking they have alternatives, the best case scenario is APS scaled back to about half.

I couldn;t disagree more. In 1997 the public finances were in great shape and the economy was growing BUT Tony Blair was just a bit better looking and camera friendly than John, so as far as everone was concerned TB had to win that election and the press, much like today chased down every story about every corrupt act of every Tory MP, and what did thye come up with Neil Hamilton alegedly (just in case) taking a few quid off that well respected business man Al Fayad. And don't for one minute think that this is the first time we have hit the skids, there have been at least 2 other occassions in the last decade when the economy was on the slide but was propped up, remember TB saying it was our DUTY to spend our way out of recession and max out our credit cards?

GB had to deregulate the markets so that they coul dmake the returns they needed to to pay his stealth taxes and give us a decent return on our pension investments. It was his "alchemy" tax the growth on pensions, deregulate the market so that they can make higher returns and no one will ever notice, and he woul dhave gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those meddling kids who suddenly realised that they were heading for oblivion like a stuent with a barclaycard. And whilst we are getting all political, at the last General Election, Tony Blair said he was going to do a full term, I wonder at what point he realised the game was up? obviously a couple of days before Gordon (who had the numbers) so he "reluctantly" resigned and left him to his fate. We will probably never know all the history between those two, but at said last general election, Labour made much of "40 quarters of continuous growth" when thy had only been in power for 7 of them and had stuck to Tory spoending plans for the first 2. Clearly, as Labour rely on stupid people to elect them, they have to increase the number of stupid poeple.......
Labour bets on bashing bankers 10:48am on 28 Sep 2009 Labour were always going to turn this into a class war, their sole chance of any kind of survival post the next election is to portray the tories as laughing at the poor poeple losing their jobs and homes while the greedy bankers continue to reap the rewards of their almost criminal behaviour. And if you hol d that view then go and vote GB on whatever date he has worked out is the absolute latest he can go to the polls. But the truth is, and people are waking up to this, is that when New Labour came to power in 1997 Tony Blair recognised that the tories had got the public finances of this country back on track after the disasater of the Labour governements of the 70's and yes we needed to spend a bit of money here and there to bring some things back up to scratch so people thought OK, have a go for a bit, you seem like a decent sort of chap. But since TB left an GB took the helm, the true Labour Party has come back into the accendency and low and behold, two years in and the country is on its knees. Now you can "blame" the USA and the sub prime mortgage market, but the truth lies much deeper than that. Look to the stealth taxes GB implemented whilst at the treasury, the robbery from the pension funds for example. Well if you are going to tax the growth of pensions at a time when returns are 5 - 6% pa then that shortfall has to come from somewhere and that somewhere was deregulation the deregulatin that allowed derivative trading to become the norm. I could go on for hours and I porbably will - as Paul Weller once said, but the old adage that Labour bankrupts Britain is as true today as it has ever been, so keep peddling your politics of jealousy Labour, because everytime you open your mouths the tories get another vote. Oh and one more thought, next time Labour introduce another ill thought out law, a pertinent question would be, does this law apply equally to Labour Ministers as it does to the rest of the population, Neil Hamilton, owes this country a huge debt for the election of Labour in 1997, luckily Baroness Scotland is reversing the situation.

Lloyds: Mind the GAPS 3:42pm on 21 Sep 2009 Hopeless. Point 1, Back in March they said there was 260bn of "toxic" assets they were looking to place into the APS. The cost for this was 15.6Bn. They now consider that substantially less of these debts are "toxic" and henc ethey can reduce their reliance on the APS, NOT remove themselves from it already!!! What is likely is that they will place say 150Bn into the scheme at a premium of 10Bn which will be raised in an alternative way (other than giving HMG a bucket load of shares) There is NO WAY they will be able to raise the capital needed to not go into the APS and think about it, if 20Bn is considered enough to mean that the APS is not required, whyt he hell are we talking about 260Bn of toxic debt. This is really poorly reported across the piece and needs to be put right quickly because right now, those, like me, who know what is going on are buying up even cheaper shares and when the truth is finally worked out by our rather silly financial journalists I will have made another killing!!!!!

Spookily enough a line which has been used to damn the people milking benefits as well. It seems to me that if you work hard to be in the middle you are taken for a ride at both ends.
