More fees from Ryanair, the airline Britain loves to hate 2:52pm on 02 Oct 2009 I'm looking forward to this. I think Ryanair has a horrendous attitude towards its customers. There is plenty of room in the industry for new airlines but unfortunately each route only has limited scope for competition.
It doesn't seem reasonable to me that normal costs necessitated (for the vast majority of people) with flying are netted away from the actual price of the flight. The flight 'prices' are only so low because they don't reflect the cost of the flight but depend on super-profit being generated by the fees on paying with a typical debit card or actually getting on the aircraft.
I wonder if the Competition Commission should consider imposing a rule that prices should as a minimum cover the cost of the product/service. It would have the effect of increasing Ryanair's flight prices, but would also force their hand on the other ridiculous costs.
I interviewed O'Leary once and asked him about customer satisfaction issues. He said Ryanair had the the lowest customer complaints of any major airline. What a nonsense. I expect most customers would not know how to complain such are the administrative barriers to doing so. I also expect the only way of doing so if via a premium rate phone line. Ryanair has no interest in customer satisfaction beyond the immediate impact on their turnover.
Will he or won't he? 12:53pm on 29 Sep 2009 I thought it wasn't so much PM's who didn't debate, but Favourites who didn't. The underdog has nothing to lose. Major had nothing to lose in 1997, so of course he would have wanted the debate. I always understood it was Blair who didn't want to take part.
The big news this time is that the Favourite (Cameron) wants a debate. That's what's unusual. Of course the devil is in the detail, but if Brown too is willing to debate, then let's make it happen. Sky News seem to be ahead on this one. Perhaps you could work on a pooled basis with them?
The first set of ears 6:07pm on 25 Jun 2009 Perhaps the reason no one watches the vast majority of ministerial statements (including MPs) is because the headlines are trailed in advance on Today. I think it's important that MPs should feel incentivised to stay in the chamber more. Sometimes shoddy legislation makes its way through parliament because too many of us were concentrating on the headlines, not on the fine detail.

From a journalistic perspective, it would be better for journalists to decide what the headlines are in a piece of legislation, not the ministers' spin doctors.

Justin may have been referring to England and England. Mr Obama is coming to England. If he were going to another part of the UK, I've no doubt that he would have mentioned that part specifically. I'm from Northern Ireland and proud of my Britishness, but I'd be disappointed if a dignitary made it to Northern Ireland and his/her arrival in the UK was mentioned with no mention of NI.

Good points. However, the greatest damage to the Conservatives at this stage seems to have come from the Media decision to analyse the damage. There seems to have been little attention paid to the face value of what Mr Davis has actually said.

The question "what's the political impact?" seems to have been assessed only how the Conservatives have been impacted. Very little analysis on how Labour is impacted. Would you address that please?

Labour has described Mr Davis's decision as a "vanity exercise". If they really feel that way, then how about they train their guns on the policy instead. Stop focussing on him and start focussing on the policy. Then they tear the vanity exercise apart and tackle the issue, on which they claim to have the public's support. If that is a genuine argument, then they have a great opportunity to fight on that basis.
