the UK public sector is a disaster, notwithstanding the many admirable people who toil within its excessively heirarchical and secretive set up.

Gordon Brown is the paradigm of the generation of people he has engendered. The live-now pay-later generation. Trouble is, he won't be doing the paying. Quite how a man who has got so much wrong retains any credibility at all is beyond me.
Public servants on $20m a year 11:29am on 03 Dec 2009 The constant linking of huge bonuses with quality employees is, and has been proven to be, totally fallacious. Sir Fred Goodwin wasn't exactly quality was he? Actually he was a pompous tyrant if all one reads is true. So I say huge bonuses attract the worst people. Is that what is called heresy nowadays?

Quite right, I couldn't agree more. Millions of people in this country are on minimum wage and can't possibly afford these fines. You can be fined more by a bank for going £5 overdrawn than you get fined for an actual criminal offence.

I didn't write a plea for cash. I was merely pointing out that the banks have us all in their thrall and that this was not always the case. Also, that they are taking advantage of this set-up. Try not to jump to inaccurate conclusions please.
Winners and losers 12:01pm on 26 Nov 2009 In the 1970s I lived in SW3 in a rented flat. I had a phone, gas and electric, and a job. But I didn't have a bank account.

Sometimes I got a cheque, a gift maybe, so I signed it on the back and cashed it.

Since then-no countersigning, no cash from my employer, standing orders from the utilities all mean, as far as I can tell, that a bank account is compulsory.

So it has turned into a stitch up, obviously.

As for those who blame the feckless, get a life please, this country runs on credit.

Nutt gets the sack 11:17am on 31 Oct 2009 It's my belief that this has come from Mr Brown and not Mr Johnson, who, like the awful Mrs Smith is merely a tow-the-line party lackey. So it is the retrograde values of our peculiar unelected PM that are in full flow here. I have no idea why Mr Brown ever became a socialist. He's the most conservative PM of my lifetime.
One thing you can say for certain about Mr Brown, he really does believe in weilding the stick, but where's the carrot?

Silenced, cowed, scared, worried if we step out of line we will lose our jobs; badly educated, unaware of history, entitled, complacent, immoral, unethical, up our own rear ends.
