Tuffers in step with TMS 1:16pm on 05 Sep 2009 Tuffers and Boycs are a great combination as summarisers. Tuffers brings a cheerful, but logical and sensible,comment to the game, Boycott is not daft when it comes to scoring runs, and sees all the failings of the current batsmen. Our disappointment is that TMS/BBC is all too keen to use Henry Blofeld as the face of TMS when any publicity is needed, but does not always use him on the day (witness the use of Blowers on 'Today' at the start of the 5th test, and even the sports reporter on Today saying he was sitting in Blowers seat, when we all knew he was not in the commentary team).Would much rather listen to Blowers, Boycs and Tuffers plus visiting team's commentator, CMJ and Agnew, than all the others dragged in (Vic Marks -what a droning misery!)
Suggest an idea and someone for an honour 4:53pm on 29 Dec 2008 I would prefer someone to win who is just an unsung hero doing his/her job to the best of his/her abilities. It is so galling that media personalities (R4 folk excepted) earn lots of money and are rewarded for their 'services to... self-enhancement'. In the real world there are so many selfless people working their butts off for others, without pay, reward, media adulation etc. They spend hours helping others, but are never recognised. Let us honour these folk for a change, and not those who already make a rich return from their media/financial presence. In our village is a lady who organises Rainbows, is a parish councillor, runs a knitting group etc etc. Another lady has been secretary of the local History Group for over 30 years, organises a ladies' group, and hosts many meetings despite having serious walking difficulties. This is a tiny village; there are so many more towns and villages with unselfish people like this, but they are never recognised. John Major had the right idea but did not go far enough - honours for the people, not the ostentatious fat cats and so-called personalities!
A national tragedy. 6:04pm on 19 Nov 2008 How sad that whiners, pretentious 'celebrities' and miserable folk have forced JS out of 'SCD'. He was a joy to watch, a beacon for oldies, and a jolly good entertainer. Surely SCD is supposed to be entertainment, not just a demonstration of dancing. Sadly the 'celebrity' cult has defeated the entertainment culture. I will no longer be watching.
Lack of runs costs emotional Vaughan 4:29pm on 04 Aug 2008 I am very sad for MV. He was a team player who did his best. Regretably Pieterson, who is a good player when on form, has not shown 'team spirit'. "That is the way I play" is hardly an excuse for playing irresponsibly in the last two Test Matches. Listening to the second Test in France, one had to wonder who's side was he on?

To be honest, there is no-one in the current team who can hold a candle to MV as a captain. Mike Brearley,whom I watched as captain of Middlesex and England, was as per MV, an intelligent man who did his best with what he was given.

It is time that the "coaches" and selectors stood up to be counted. MV has taken the fall but the performance of the batmen has been very poor overall. Moreover, the bowlers have been uninspiring (with the exception of Stuart Broad, who can bat a bit).

It is depressing to envisage the England team that will lose the Ashes next year.I lost interest in International Cricket 1982-2002. I expect I am going to lose interest again which is sad: there is nothing I enjoy more than listening to "Blowers" on LW/Digital.
Movable Type Comments 6:01pm on 07 Feb 2008 Having listened to the Archbishop of Canterbury, I am alarmed at his suggestion that Sharia law could be an option under some circumstances for Muslims in the UK. Surely all citizens should be subject to exactly the same body of law, irrespective of race, sex, colour or religion. Only in this way can equality be preserved.
