Wikipedia on the wane? 1:50pm on 29 Nov 2009 I think it is a shame to see so many missconceptions about wikipedia. It is true that you don't have to be an academic to post on wikipedia; however, you do have to correctly reference anything you post.
The media like to sensationalise the short comings of the site, the above article being a good example (simply cherry picking info out of its context, info that has since been shown as largly inaccurate), but the fact is that only a vinishing minority of its work has ever been unsound. Stupid things, like the Bruce Springstien hoax. Yet things like this have led to bans on any references to the site amongst the professional services, and no doubt in other areas as well.

We are lucky to have things like wikipedia. We must not let our cinicism, and people looking to make headlines, lead us to reject wiki.

Moyes & Everton deserve glory 10:04am on 20 Apr 2009 Well played Everton,I think pretty much every Liverpool fan was on thier side as well, which is a happy oddity. The big two domestic trophies for the city this year hopefully, it'll be like the late eighties all over again... sort of.

Also, it's funny how its only the two losing managers complaining about the pitch isn't it? Still its not as if thier known for being sore losers (ha!).
Hiddink's sweet smell of success 2:09pm on 09 Apr 2009 Once again the tactical analysis from Phil Mc is worthy of a place in the Mirror, or maybe even the Sun. I suppose it is inevitable that most of todays journalists will struggle to see past the final score, but surely the bbc could have found someone with a bit more nous than the tippical soap opera journalism.

I thought Guus Hiddink got it right in the pre match press conference when he said that there is only so much a manager can do, it is the players that have to execute, and if Torres, Kuyt, Lucas or Gerrard had executed when Liverpool were one up and the better side it may have been Chelsea who went ragged. Chelsea played well though, and took full advantage when the spaces openned up in the second half.

Is it true that the bbc has broadcasting rights in Isreal that may be under threat should the appeal be shown?
BBC and the Gaza appeal 6:21pm on 29 Jan 2009 It is good to see that so many people have taken the trouble to write in to the bbc about this ridiculous decision. After reading the first page of this blog I could only find one post supporting this desicion to sixty or seventy that were against. Seeing as the bbc is supposed to be representing these people surely, whatever warped logic Mark Thompson and others at the bbc apply, it has now been proven that their oppinion on this is not in line with that of the licence fee payers.

Also, on one page reporting this story the bbc gave a 'selection' of e-mails that they had recieved, seven of which were in favour of the desicion, and fourteen of which were against. This seems like a complete misrepresentation of the feed back they are clearly getting, and shows that the bbc are happy to forget about impartiality when it suits them.

One final point is that, in my opinion, the bbc coverage from Gaza is actually really good. The journalists on the ground must feel absolutely gutted and betrayed. Mark Thompson has to go.

So far I've gathered that Obama's policies will lie somewhere between Karl Marx and Margret Thatcher. Thanks for that.

I think Fukuyama's comment that Americans vote democrat in times of economic hardship, and Republican in times of prosperity is really interesting. I think Americas rather uniquely right wing sociological position is down to the Republicans ability to seccessfully tie the idea of the American dream to small low tax governments. Personally I find this completely bogus; however, I can see how it is an easier stunt to pull in times of economic prosperity.

It would have been interesting to hae heard Justin ask Fukuyama something like 'to what extent he felt the economic contractions that lead to a democrat getting elected were being caused by the encumbant Republicans?'

But alas... Justin merely mumbles something about religion.

I think most of the coverage has been pretty poor, to be fair, but I've enjoyed coming on her and reading what people have to say. I think half of the people on this blog could work for the bbc.

I'll just point out one last thing, that is: on 'Stretching America' Justin talked about Obama as if he was already preparing for the 'formidable threat of Sarah Palin', and yet on the live coverage Justin said that Republicans will already be looking for their next candidate, but that 'it will not be Sarah Palin'...

How can she be a threat to Obama if the Republicans won't nominate her?

Sarah Palin, because of her youth, looks, and simple but effective (and rather Bush like) stage presence will always have a certain draw, a certain appeal among parts of conservative America. We saw in this election, however, how her Bush-like policies and her Bush-like lack of knowledge and intellect was a real drag on the McCain campain, even offensive to many women. There is an optimism today that I think will last, a change in direction in America that I think can be sustained and long lasting.

Sarah Palin's policies are a thing of the past in as much as they will no longer win elections, or at least not the next election. Not against a candidate that can articulate the consequences and the alternatives as Barak Obama can. The Republicans need a moderate, intellectual conservative. If they nominate Palin next time around they wont even have a prayer...
Sinister motives? 09:52am on 04 Nov 2008 TomAmes #89 - Rather than fiddling with new technologies why don't 'they' just look at the British system, i.e. spreading out the voting process so that come polling day voters only have to vote for their choice of president, all those other votes for all those other levels of office can be done at some other time during the electoral cycle. Seems to work like clockwork over here. :)

On a different subject all together, I think all of those analysts whom indulged in all that discussion as to how Obamas visit to his grandmother would play out, was it a 'good move?' was repeated several times, owe Obama and his family an apology. As do some bloggers whom suggested that she 'couldn't be that sick'.
