Pensions.. 3:55pm on 17 Mar 2009 Of course the Government do not understand the finer points of pension funds, they have no need to, as there is no "Pension Fund" for them, they just get a figure, indexed linked, that comes out of our taxes each year. For ever.
So Sir Fred has taken the option, that we all have of taking a proportion tax free, on retirement. Why wouldn't he? Anybody on final salary scheme has the same oportunity?

Designing the new R4 web site 8:57pm on 10 Mar 2009 I'm very worried about this 'width' thing. Whilst width works well when I have one of my old laptops rigged up to a 32" television, my latest laptop does not have the newer wider screen. Text appears very small, but if you just 'Zoom' in, the concept just breaks down. Remember all us older surfers who do not have the latest wider layout screens please when you make the changeover
Time went backwards during last night's PM. 5:48pm on 27 Feb 2009 Seems to me that The Good Ship B.B.C. is breaking down with all things technical. Clocks going bacwards is nothing; The links for the Whats On Listing and Now on Air havent worked for a month, and the Listen Again facility for 'Lady in the Van' didnt work for 3 days.
Question. How many techies does it take to run the BBC?

The Glass Box for Thursday. 5:24pm on 26 Feb 2009 Eddie, you missed the point about Sir Freds pay-off. --buying a £693,000 annual pension at age 50 would cost at least £25m, not the £16m previously believed. As a result, Sir Fred was effectively handed a £17m pay-off after leaving RBS.
You pension expert said "its a matter for the pension trustee's." You should have asked him where the extra £17m is coming from. Out of the RBS pension pot for all the ordinary members?. So RBS now have a bigger pension deficit, but hey- ho, the Government have schemes where all us regular peoples pensions are clawed off for companys who have Pensions Deficits. I'm sure alll you BBC people will be happy that your pension fund is being taxed each year to prop up failing Pension funds!
Somebody needs to go after the Trustee's of RBS Pension Fund, and ask them why they didn't blanch at this sudden £17m hit.
